Dear CRES Families, With snow still on the ground, It is hard to believe that we are nearing the final months of school. At this time, we start thinking about next year and the classroom placement of your child. The main goal of the placement process is to ensure success for all students by building “balanced” classrooms. Our priority is to create classrooms that contain students with varying skills, strengths, needs, and personalities. Although we cannot guarantee that children will be placed with a friend, we do make sure that each child has a familiar face in the classroom. It’s important to us that we create classrooms where all students can learn and grow. The first six weeks of school are spent developing new communities and teaching students how to work and play cooperatively with a variety of students. All members of the CRES staff are involved in the placement process so that we have all the current and important information to make the very best decision for the placement of your child. Teams work together to build new classrooms and there is careful attention to individual needs and strengths. We value your input, as well, and welcome you to play a role in the placement process by telling us about your child. We do not permit parents to request specific teachers, as this disrupts the balanced placement process. Feel free to talk with me about this if you have concerns. Please consider filling out the attached placement form to provide us with valuable information about your child. This form should be returned to the office by April 27th. In May we will offer parents the opportunity to learn more about the upcoming grade level (what students will learn about, what the homework expectations are, etc.) and meet some of the teachers. Keep your eye on the newsletter for Parent Night information! We will be telling families which classroom community their child has been placed into before the end of the school year. This will allow us to offer students a chance to “Step Up” and meet their new teacher and their new classmates in June.
