Planning Details and Information

Will need weekly report that shows where students are in the enrollment process to
determine how they will serve the student. (Valencia needs to provide)

Will collaborate with Transitions Planning to coordinate bi-weekly or monthly meetings

Will need to attend NSO training (already reached out to Lorie for date). Will follow up
with confirmation. Contact Lorie Bellot/Mary McGowan/Sonya Joseph

Will be working the lists pending Senior Survey results after May 20th. (Osceola)

Coaches (Osceola) will be creating a survey to assess when parents are able to
support events.

Coaches will create a list of events and initiatives to support the general initiatives
timeline.

Coaches will create a checklist of event promotion—coordinated efforts to link school,
district and Valencia events to flow into college readiness and enrollment timeline.

Timeline for Focused Initiatives
Defined by Osceola County Coaches and Transitions Planning Team on 5/5/14

Coaches will have a table at the Welcome Back Week event for Teachers @ Heritage
Park to promote their services for the school year.

Coaches will also participate at the High School Open Houses to be available to
students/parents (double booked, since they are all on same dates, will look into
coverage)

Coaches will work on a menu of services and initiatives to help promote how they can
assist students while working at the schools. This information will then be transferred to
online format.

SEPTEMBER: College Nights/Parent Nights focus—the start of “College Week” initiative,
with testing awareness, preparation, college readiness. Cafeteria tables/presentations
at the schools. Will coordinate all initiatives linked to College Week to ensure
comprehensive coverage and focused presentations.

September 29- October 3 | College Week | Promote College night (Curriculum)

During the fall events, will be promoting and linking students to College Prep Day

October 13-17—follow up from College Week with Application Days at schools, to
follow up and support curriculum.

November—focus on scholarship awareness, applications and options. Prep for
Bridges application on Nov. 1—due January 28.

January—2 district financial aid nights | Promote FAFSA Frenzy | College Goal Sunday

College Prep Day (Valencia) February 7th (Saturday) 10 am – 3 pm

February—Financial Aid awareness, Application focus (Feb. 16 & 20 FAFSA Frenzy)

February 20th Rodeo Day Osceola (FAFSA Frenzy)

March/April/May—comprehensive enrollment process, check-in’s and initiatives
leading to NSO.

Will create coordinated curriculum, presentations, and supplemental materials to all
initiatives

Career Specialists will be the main point of contact for all requests (Osceola)

THE BASICS: THE COLLEGE TRANSITIONS COACH

Coach serves as a resource to students, parents, and school counselors ensuring
that students apply to college and are prepared for the transition from high
school to college.

Provides career and college counseling to assist students in appraising their
interests, aptitudes and abilities and assists them in relevant and realistic
educational planning.

Meets individually with students for educational planning and defining of
academic goals aligned to college readiness. Advise students regarding
academic choices and performance goals in preparation for college admission
and program choice.

Create a resource-rich environment for students and teachers as it pertains to
college information, scholarship opportunities and financial aid options.

Act as a primary contact linking students to enrichment programs, and summer
college programs.

Responsible for the development and maintenance of a Junior/Senior College
Planning Timeline and use as a tool in coaching and planning for college
transition.

Provides support to ensure school counselors have the tools necessary to
prepare their students for the college application and financial aid process.

Maintain detailed records of student cohorts served by tracking program data
on advising activities, interventions, services and student goals.

Prepares quarterly reports on each student, describing counseling activities for
the reporting period and providing specific details regarding student progress
such as course schedule, grades, problems and related matters.

Lead and coordinate college campus visits/tours.

Conduct Saturday programs aimed at teaching academic and life skills that
support LifeMap Stage 1 (College Transitions) success indicators.

Conduct parent workshops on the college transition process and resources.

Serve as a liaison between the local school (students, parents, teachers,
administration) and Valencia College.

Collaborate with Transitions Planning Division to establish learning objectives,
curriculum and assessment methods for presentations and programs.

Participates as part of the Transitions Planning Team. Assists in planning and
implementation of Transitions Initiatives.

Provide coaching and mentoring for students enrolled in targeted Valencia
Transitions Programs.

Provide support for workshops and community events that serve the students in
each mentoring cohort under the program.

Provide academic assessment and college readiness initiatives information
preparing high school students for academic placement upon college
admission.
