May 2013 Wednesday 1st May – BHA Handicapper speaker event at Warren House, 6.30pm-8.30pm First Member fee: free / Second & Third Member fee: £25pp / Guest fee: £95pp More than half of the races in Britain each year are handicaps. These are races where the Handicappers try to give each horse an equal chance of winning. This is done by giving the highest rated (or 'best') horse in the race the highest weight to carry; and reducing the weight carried by inferior horses. The BHA has a team of twelve Handicappers whose job is to study and interpret the form. They publish a list of ratings every week based on performances on the racecourse: the higher the rating, the better the horse. A member of the BHA team will be coming to speak at Warren House about how the handicapping system works and the complexities of interpreting the form. Book your places now if you want to impress with your knowledge of the form book and the handicapping system at your next race day!
