Dear Contestants, Parents and Guardians:
Your daughter has expressed an interest in participating in the Miss Shoal River 2016 Pageant. Please
find attached the Contestant’s Entry Form. The pageant will be held on Saturday, March 5th at Crestview
High School at 5:00 p.m.



The deadline for turning in the form and photogenic pictures will be Friday, February 26, 2016 at
3:00 p.m. Forms and photogenic pictures will not be accepted after that date. No Exceptions!!
Please return registration forms and pictures to Ms. Eckel in room 218. Checks should be made
payable to Shoal River Middle School or SRMS.
There will be no practice for the pageant but stage directions and a checklist are attached.
The contestants will vote on Miss Congeniality in room 218 before or after school on Thursday,
March 3, 2016.
On the day of the pageant the contestants will need to arrive and meet in the CHS chorus room at the
following times:

6th grade contestants will need to arrive no later than 4:30p.m.

7th grade contestants will need to arrive no later than 5:00p.m.

8th grade contestants will need to arrive no later than 5:30p.m.
As each contestant arrives and checks in, they will receive a “MOM PASS.” Only one adult female will be
allowed in the dressing area with each contestant. There will also be a photographer to take contestant’s
pictures starting at 4:30p.m. in the lobby/foyer area. Tickets will also be sold beginning at 4:30p.m. The
cost for entry into the pageant will be $5.00.

Miss Shoal River 2015 Pageant Tips
There will be no rehearsal for the pageant. I have provided the STAGE DIRECTIONS:
 You will walk on from stage center to #1 STOP sign, look at the judges, then the audience.
 Proceed to position #2 where you will make eye contact with the emcee, and look at the audience.
 Proceed to position #3 and make your turn (a walking turn works better than a spinning turn which makes
your dress turn), look over your shoulder at the judges as you slowly turn and stop (count to 5) to let them
look at the back of your dress.
 Proceed to position #4; be careful not to look down at the judges the whole time, but do look at them AND
the audience.
 Proceed to the exit sign from stage front.

Judges’ Table
1. For practice at home; CHECKLIST & TIPS:
 Don’t walk fast; be natural.
 Make sure you don’t lean back. Stand straight and tall; imagine a line pulling you up from your core/center.
 Don’t look at the judges all the time; it will make you nervous and disconnect you from the audience.
 Practice with your mom, friends, and in front of a mirror.
 Make sure your dress is not too long; you don’t want to kick it or trip on it as you walk.
 Keep your weight on both feet; when you stop, position your feet to align so your hips align straight.
 When you’re about to stop, do a 1, one thousand; 2, one thousand; 3, one thousand; 4, one thousand; 5, one
thousand count to time your stop.
 SMILE, and enjoy yourself; have fun
 Hand position-not stiff- remember the natural “C” position. Do not grab your dress.
 When you are standing still, make sure not to lock your knees as you could faint if you do so.
2. General Program Agenda:
We will play music during your walk and read your bio; when all individuals’ walks are complete, you will all come
out as a grade group. You will turn on cue so judges can see the backs of dresses one last time, go back to front
position, exit, and wait for whole group call back for judges’ decisions. Winners will be crowned by grade level
before next grade level starts.
3. Listen to your teacher for instructions; no gum.
4. Each of you are beautiful young ladies; enjoy getting ready for the pageant with your mom. The pageant itself,
which is a fun time with friends, family, is an opportunity to build confidence and poise. Enjoy this special event.
