2015 Miss Sweetheart of Georgia and 2015 Little Miss Buford Pageants
Welcome to the 22nd annual pageants of the Buford Band Boosters Association. We want you
to have fun and enjoy the experience of being on stage. As we celebrate you, just remember
everyone here is cheering for you so just have fun. Tonight you will have time to practice on
stage, practice your turns, talk about skin care and makeup, tour dressing rooms, receive
helpful hints from 2014 Queens. Ms. Lisa Cole will be the stage manager if you have any
questions or concerns regarding the backstage area and/or procedures. Please let us know if
we can help you in any other way- we want this to be a wonderful experience for you and your
child. Portraits by Wendy will be here for professional pictures if you wish to have pictures
made before or after your pageant. You need to be back in the dressing room ready to go 20
minutes prior to your start time. Pictures of the Queens will be taken for us to send to the
papers after the Toddler Division, Little Division, Pre-Teen Division, and Teen Division. Be
sure to be available at the one after your division. The running of the pictures and event are
always at the discretion of the papers. After each age division pageant is completed,
contestants will be escorted back to the dressing rooms and will need to quickly clear all
personal items from the rooms to prepare it for the next age division.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR PAGEANT CONTESTANT’S GROUP AND INDIVIDUAL WALKS
Please look at the diagrams below and on back and follow them today for your individual/and
group walks. INTRODUCTION OF DIVISION, before each competition, girls will be lined
up in numerical order backstage. At the beginning of each competition when we raise the
main curtain, all contestants in each division will be on stage. In divisions up to 15, girls will
step forward and form a line in front of judges.
You will stand and smile with your hands to your sides. You will be asked to turn as a group
so the judges may see your dress and your stance from the back view. You will face forward
not at the judges. Then you will be asked to turn again which at that time you will face
forward again. Smile with your eyes toward the audience and judges until dismissed to
prepare for your individual walks. In divisions of 16 or more, one half of the group will be
asked to form a line in front of the judges. You will stand and smile with your hands to your
sides. You will be asked to turn as a group so the judges may see your dress and your stance
from the back view. You will face forward not at the judges. Then you will be asked to turn
again which at that time you will face forward again. When the emcee says thank you, you
will turn and return to the position when the curtain opened. The second half of the group
will then be asked to step forward. You will form a line in front of the judges. You will stand
and smile with your hands to your sides. You will be asked to turn as a group so the judges
may see your dress and your stance from the back view. You will face forward not at the
judges. Then you will be asked to turn again which at that time you will face forward again.
Make sure your number side is facing the judges. When the emcee says thank you girls, you
will turn and return to the position when the curtain opened. When the emcee says thank
you, you may prepare for your individual walks you should turn and exit stage right.
INDIVIDUAL WALK
The individual walks will ENTER from the middle of the curtains (#1) and stop while your
name is being announced. Proceed straight ahead to position #2. At the position labeled #2,
each contestant will need to stop and smile at judges for approximately 3 seconds, turn
halfway (with back to audience) and hold for three seconds and then turn to the front for
three seconds before traveling to position #3. Do a 180 turn, smile and proceed to position 4
where you will turn and face the judges and audience for one last smile. Hold until the emcee
is completely through talking and says your name and contestant number one last time before
exiting stage right. There will be adults and Buford band students available to escort each
age group to and from the dressing rooms to the back stage area and help contestants with
their pageant walks. Only the banded parents of the Baby and Toddler divisions (& Wee Miss, if
needed) will be allowed to come past the loading dock area to the actual backstage area so that
they can accompany their child onto the stage. Other parents may accompany their children
from the dressing rooms to the loading dock door and then the Buford Band Booster staff will
help from that point.

will walk all the way to the front and farthest sides of the stage and all others will fill in
between them in a semi-circle (middle numbers will be backing closest to the curtain

Helpful Hints





Have fun! It will show.
Be confident. Act as if you own the stage.
Be nice. A good personality will show on your face.
Be yourself. DO NO BE A FAKE. The judges will see through that.
Do not hold on to your dress as you walk. Hands should be comfortably at your sides.
 Floor length pageant gowns should be approximately ½” from touching the floor.
Younger contestants’ length should assure they can walk without tripping on the skirt.
 Keep in mind that natural hair, whether it is straight or curled, is best. Be sure your
hair does not hide your pretty face. Hair bows and accessories are okay if they match
the outfit.
 Practice walking in your dress and with your shoes on at home (on a hard floor) so that
you will feel comfortable on the day of the pageant.
 If available, practice walking/turning in front of a full-length mirror. You can practice
your smile in a mirror also. Try to maintain a natural smile, not fake.
 Age Appropriate Make-up
1. Baby Miss through Little Miss – I would suggest no make-up, lip gloss maybe.
2. Junior Miss through Teen Miss – Keep make-up natural but keep in mind that
the bright stage lights will “wash you out”, so you might want to apply more than
you would normally wear to school.
3. Keep in Mind – A baby should look like a baby. A child should look like a child,
and a teen should look like a teen.
