1. Course description
This is a 3 credits course that introduces students methods used in
linguistic analysis. The course offers various subdisciplines with regard
to linguistic research. To this end, the course concentrates on linguistic
analysis and linguistic research. During the course time students will be
assigned to make linguistic analysis by using different calculations and
methods. Later these calculations will be applied to develop a project
paper. Students are highly welcome to participate in a group/pair form.
Students are expected to argue for/against the issues they investigate
based on the outcomes of linguistics analysis.
2. Learning Opportunities
2.1. Classroom
All suggested materials are expected to be explained by the instructor
and discussed by all participants of the learning process in the
classroom.
2.2. Practice
Students are supposed to take an active participation in different
schools and make a linguistic analysis among the population. Therefore
beyond the class time students are required to spend enough time at
school, university, or with the public upon their choice with regard to
the completion of their term paper. The term paper of the students is
assumed to use linguistic methods in their calculations of the outcomes
based on their survey. This work could be enshrined in the future and
used as a core part of the students’ master theses in the future.
3. Length of the term paper
The term paper is expected to be between 20-25 pages.
The term paper is expected to be written in APA style.
The term paper should avoid any type of academic cheating and is
expected to be student’s own research product.
4. Grading policies
Each student’s grades shall be calculated on the following criteria (total
100 points):
Attendance/class participation- 10 points
Term paper- 30 points
Presentation of the project (term paper) -20 points
Final-40 points
