CAMPUS REPRESENTATIVE ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Division 19 Campus Representatives are an elite community of talented and dedicated graduate
students who serve as university-level ambassadors for the Division, the field of military
psychology, and the United States military as a whole. Campus Reps are vital relay stations for
the flow of information both from and to the Division and serve as subject matter experts (SMEs)
on military psychology and related information at their respective campuses. Above all, Division
19 Campus Representatives are expected to uphold and endorse the overall mission, objectives,
ideals, and core values of Division 19 and the various branches of the United States Armed
Forces within which, and to whom, we serve.
Campus Representatives are encouraged to establish, develop, and operate Div. 19/Military
Psychology Student Chapters for the benefit of current and future students of military
psychology at their universities. As part of the Division 19 Student Chapter Network the primary
objective of individual chapters is to supplement traditional graduate-level psychology education
with military-specific programming, training, and educational opportunities. The Division 19
Student Chapter Network’s mission is threefold: 1) to increase the total number of qualified,
interested candidates for commissioned or civil service as US Air Force, Army, Navy or VA
psychologists; 2) to develop strong leaders in anticipation of eventual military service and/or
participation in Division 19 governance; and 3) to enhance military cultural awareness in civilian
graduate education programs with respect to treatment of US military personnel (current and
previous) and their family members.
Expected Roles and Responsibilities
1) Assist Division 19 Student Affairs Committee in disseminating information and
professional development opportunities to students interested in military psychology
2) Convey ideas and provide bottom-up feedback to Student Affairs Committee on behalf of
fellow students. Examples of such feedback may include (but are not limited to) the
following:
a. Department of Veteran Affairs/Department of Defense internship application
questions
b. Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP) questions
c. Military-relevant clinical/research opportunities, questions, concerns
d. APA Convention programming recommendations
e. Challenges experienced on campus, with research and/or during clinical
training
3) Learn Division 19 bylaws, governance, and organizational structure

4) Continue to develop knowledge of uniformed services and the role psychologists play
within that environment
5) Recruit fellow students to Division 19 and APAGS
6) Serve as local ambassadors for Division 19 and military psychology on campus
7) Work with faculty advisers to enhance cultural awareness of military populations
Aspirational Roles and Responsibilities
1) Start a Division 19/Military Psychology Student Chapter
a. Utilize Division 19 Student Chapter Handbook (in press) to start a group on
campus
b. Coordinate events that enhance awareness of military psychology-relevant
information and career/training opportunities on and off campus
c. Coordinate with student governance organizations to enhance visibility and
increase access to vital resources
d. Forge partnerships with, or promote the development of, military-relevant
organizations (e.g., Student Veteran Organizations) on campus and within the
local community
e. Enhance volunteerism on campus
f. Promote healthy lifestyle and physical fitness among peers and whenever
possible, through personal example
2) Build relationships with local, regional, and national military clinical providers,
researchers, training directors, and military healthcare recruiters.
3) Promote leadership development by creating opportunities for peers to lead, teach, train,
and inspire one another, especially for those who wish to serve as commissioned military
officers on or before graduation.
4) Advocate for increased military psychology training opportunities, such a military/VA
practica and research collaborations
5) Coordinate with university administrators to increase awareness of military financial aid
and scholarship opportunities within student body
Specific Duties
1) Submit Campus Representative Activities Report to Division19 Student Affairs
Committee once per semester (dates TBD).
2) Hold one Business Meeting per semester on campus, with meeting minutes taken down
and submitted to Student Affairs Committee as an attachment to the aforementioned
Campus Representative Activities Report.
3) Serve as permanent (i.e., non-elected, and for the length of tenure) member of Student
Chapter’s Board/Leadership Team, representing and advising on Division 19’s bylaws,
preferences, concerns, and best interests.

4) Participate in periodic teleconferences with Student Affairs Committee and fellow
Campus Representatives from around the country.
5) (If attending the APA Convention), Campus Representatives must attend the Div. 19
Business Meeting, Presidential Address, and represent their university at the Social Hour.
