Press Release HEC Organizes First Ever Orientation Program for Newly Inducted Vice Chancellors Higher Education Commission organizes first ever 02 day orientation workshop for newly inducted Vice Chancellors/Rectors under Modern University Governance Program for University Management on September 14-15, 2011. The main purpose of this program is to share HEC initiatives with the participants and sensitizing the university management to implement higher education reforms in the universities. Twenty five Vice Chancellors who recently joined their offices are attending this two day program. Prof. Dr. Javaid R. Leghari, Chairman HEC delivered a keynote address on Leadership and Management Skills. The VCs discussed their role and relationship with Higher Education Commission and their respective provincial governments. The working groups of VCs defined their institution’s vision, mission, strategic planning framework and expectations from HEC and its partner organizations. The Vice-Chancellor University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, Birmingham and Deputy Vice Chancellor University of Wales, New Port, UK were also linked through Video Conferencing to discuss leadership and good governance in higher education institutions with VCs of Pakistani universities. On the sidelines of newly inducted VC Conference, Prof. Dr. Sohail H. Naqvi, Executive Director HEC and Mr. David Martin, Country Director British Council signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch Transforming English Language Skills (TELS) program under English Language Teaching Reforms (ELTR) Project. This program will help university students learning English language proficiency skills for employability. Dr. Mary Linda Armacost, Former president of two US universities, conducted a session on Institutional Heads role as Educational leaders. This program ensures the management system of universities to be equipped with the best of leadership and governance tools so that it facilitates and supports the academia in the most efficient and effective manner. This program will become a regular feature of Higher Education Commission initiatives to reform the university management. The MUG Program of Higher Education Commission is a revolutionary step for the Management Cadre of universities for continuous capacity building and professional development through latest tools, techniques and international practices in university Governance and leadership. Under this program Leading Transformational Change (LTC) series was launched at national level, and so far 240 people have benefited from it. Similarly first ever Vice Chancellor’s level course was conducted at AIT Extension Bangkok which was attended by 12 Vice Chancellors and 02 senior Registrars. The current orientation program for newly inducted VCs is an endeavor of HEC to ensure holistic reformation in the university leadership and governance.
