CSW Sports Awards Short Listed Nominees for Public Vote
Sportsman of the Year
Andrew Pozzi- Athletics



Andrew has become the fastest ever European teenager over 110m hurdles
(13.35secs) on the way to qualifying for London 2012 Olympics and running
12 'A' qualifying times (sub 13.52 secs), which is more than any other British
athlete.
At only aged 19, in February he was selected for the full GB team and finished
4th in the Senior World Indoor Championships 60m hurdles in a time of 7.56
secs.
He is the double UK senior 2012 champion in both the indoor 60m hurdles
and outdoor 110m hurdles and similarly he is the double British Universities
Champion and double record holder, becoming the fastest British University
student of all time in both the 60m and 110m hurdles.

Team of the Year
TST Martial Arts Men and Women teams both winning Gold at the PUMA World Taekwon-do
Championships 2012. Also national Martial arts press stating that the
performances were the best they had seen for a long time.
 Mr Tizick Chief Instructor winning a gold medal for the second year running as
an individual, (therefore retaining World Championship status). Kristopher
Roscoe winning the first ever Coventry junior Gold World Championship, And
Chris Mutton winning Veteran double Gold.
 14 of the 22 man UK squad, chosen to compete in the World Championships were
from from TST UK, Coventry TaeKwon-Do. People from as far afield as Carlisle
in the North and the Isle of Wight in the South attended trials to attempt to win a
place amongst the UK team.
Khalsa Hockey


Gained promotion to English National League, conference North Division,
after having been close on more than one occasion.
Won MRHA Premier Division by only losing one Game and winning by the
largest margin of points ever in Premier Division History.
Khalsa Hockey Club Player, Mr Gurminder Singh Ghataura, was also the
highest Goal Scorer in MRHA Premier Division.

Andy Teagle
In 2011 Andy led a Triathlon England, Sport England funded coaching
project at a leisure centre in Solihull. Many of those attending had not
previously attempted multi-sport training or a multi-sport event. The exit route
for the coaching was an aquathon (swim/run), however, those attending the
sessions approached Triathlon England to set up a new club in Solihull for
which Andy was asked to help set up and become lead coach. His commitment
and support for the project meant that almost everyone participated in the
event and many of those who attended the sessions have joined Solihull
Triathlon Club.

The club has been very successful with Andy’s coaching leadership where he
has created a supportive and encouraging environment for everyone who
attends training sessions, which has variety of ages and abilities. Many have
improved a great deal and are now entering multi-sport as well as single
discipline events, such as road runs, Aquathlon, triathlon, long distance
triathlon, Swimathon. Park Run, to name a few.

Andy coached 2 relays teams (4 x male and 4 x female) to compete at the
British Triathlon Federation National Club Relay Championships. Two of the
female athletes had not previously competed in a triathlon or experienced an
open water event and the encouragement and support received ensured both
teams competed well.
Richard Williams
Every Tuesday and Thursday night Richard runs the Northern
Warwickshire Volleyball Power League for 11-16 year olds, each
week 190 pupils from 8 secondary schools across Northern
Warwickshire compete. We enter the National Cup for Under 15 & 16
and both boys and girl’s teams are ranked inside the top 16.

Richard is one of the Head coaches of the Coventry & Warwickshire
Junior Volleyball for U13 – U16 boys and girls. This squad produced 9
members of the West Midlands Junior Volleyball Teams. Two players
were invited to the England Cadets and England Junior training over
the summer and this will continue into 2013.

Richard has been nominated for the National Participation Coach of
the Year 2011-12 by Volleyball England and is a Scholarship Coach
for the West Midlands Region. Richard is also the Chairman of
Nuneaton Volleyball Club, is the Head Coach of the Ladies team in the
West Midlands League and is the Junior Development Officer
responsible for all junior development across Northern Warwickshire
Schools and the Warwickshire County.

Voted in The Non League Paper Top 20 Managers of the year
Achieving this with a squad of young local talent who had stepped up 2 levels
from prominently local football and broke the record for number of goals
scored in a season with 104.
Sporting Occasion of the Year
CSW School Games


Established a new major annual sports event. Over 300 medals awarded to
young sports athletes in schools.
Over 2000 children young leaders and sports officials and volunteers involved
in making an excellent event happen.
Successful collaboration between Schools and CSW Sport, School Games
Organisers and National Governing Bodies of Sport along with the venues
University of Warwick and Xcel Leisure Centre
Olympic Football in Coventry
16 nations from across the world gave over 170,000 people a fantastic
Olympic experience in Coventry this summer across the 8 match days which
featured 12 games, culminating with the women's bronze medal match won by
Canada.

Over 40,000 people turned out to celebrate the Olympic Torch Relay on days
44 and 45 (1 and 2 July) at the evening celebration in War Memorial Park or
lining the streets earlier or on monday morning. Over 600 people celebrated
the paralympic flame on 25 august.

44 projects awarded the london 2012 inspire mark, over 130 businesses have
won 2012 related contracts and Coventry was awarded a £500,000 big screen
as one of 22 live sites across the UK.
Coventry Triathlon
The event, based at the Xcel centre in Canley, welcomed near 200 entrants from age
17 to 70, and all abilities from experienced competitors to first timers. Despite the
slightly damp conditions, competitors still enjoyed taking part in the sprint distance
Triathlon with a 400m swim in the Xcel Centre pool, followed by a 20k cycle on
surrounding roads and a run of 5k on local footpaths.

Over 70 volunteers, many from Coventry Triathletes and Northbrook AC, turned out
to give their time for roles such as marshalling on the bike and run courses, and of
course most importantly cheering competitor’s on!

“We are so pleased with how the event has run in its inaugural year,” commented
Dave Grant, a member of Coventry Triathletes who lead the event organisation. “We
have had some great feedback from competitors, and were really pleased that we
managed to attract so many beginners to the sport of Triathlon; we hope the event
will now become a firm fixture for Coventry’s sporting calendar”.
