INFORMATION AND RULES
CONSTRUCTION RULES
The ENTIRE boat must be built from cardboard and duct tape. Duct tape may be used to reinforce seams. Each team will be supplied with a limited
amount of cardboard and 2 rolls of duct tape. Additional duct tape, Stanley knife, pencil, straight edge must be provided by contestants.
No glues, staples or fastening materials of any description, other than duct tape, are allowed in the construction of the boat.
Crew costumes are allowed.
BOATS BUILT ON-SITE:
1.
Boat building/assembly is to take place on-site on the day of the event. 3 (three) hours will be allowed for boat building, commencing at
6:30am.
2.
The Boat design is left completely to the builders, with the exception that NO surfboard style boats will be accepted for entry.
3.
The crew compartment CANNOT be enclosed so as to interfere with any escape from the vessel, should the need arise.
4.
Decorations are encouraged provided they are not used as structural or flotation elements.
5.
A maximum of 3 people may build the 1 person class boat, a maximum of 4 may build a 2 person boat, and a maximum of 5 people may
build a 3 person boat.
BOATS BUILT OFF-SITE:
1.
Rules 2, 3 and 4 as above apply.
2.
Boats may be painted, but the paint used must NOT be soluble in salt water.
3.
Boats must be delivered to the construction site by 9am on the day of the race for scrutineering.
ParticipaTION Rules
EVERY Crew member MUST WEAR EITHER A PERSONAL FLOTATION DEVICE (PFD) or a LIFEJACKET.
All entry forms and disclaimers MUST be completed in full, with the relevant signatures.
During competition, all crew members MUST be IN the boat, not towing it, holding it between their legs, swimming or allowing lifejackets
or PFD’s to provide flotation for the boat.
Boats must remain within the demarcated race area at all times.
NO pets are allowed in the boats.
Sunken or discarded boats MUST be removed from the water and disposed of in the designated area. Boats that have completed the course
must be removed from the water and disposed of in the bins provided, or removed from the area.
THIS IS A FUN EVENT!! Any behaviour that is deemed to be detrimental to the event will/can result in team disqualification.
THE JUDGES DECIDE ON THE INTERPRETATION OF THE RULES.
THE JUDGES DECISION IS FINAL AND NO CORRESPONDENCE WILL BE ENTERTAINED.
