Calling all brave captains and crews! It’s the second annual
-Stonewall Resort -
Cardboard Boat Race!
SATURDAY, AUGUST 22nd - 9:30 AM
Rally up your family, friends, fellow Boy or Girl scouts, 4-H, school group, or youth group to create your vessel and
compete for the best timed finish! There are many ways to build a card board boat, so bring on the creativity. Please see
reverse side for building guidelines and rules.
To register, please fill out the form below for each participant. There will be a $10.00 registration fee per boat which
will include an event tee shirt for each crew member and a donation to the Stonewall State Part Foundation.
Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult in the boat. To ensure desired t-shirt size, please
register prior to August 15, 2015. There will be late registration at 8:00 AM the day of the event at a designated area.
Those registering the day of the event may receive a t-shirt while supplies last. All registered participants must meet at
the launch site no later than 9:00 am. The launch site is located behind the picnic pavilion near the Roanoke Activity

WAIVER: In consideration of the acceptance of the entry, I waive for myself, my heirs and assigns, all claims for damages
which I might have against the event, its sponsors, or any other organization, business or individual as a result of any and
all injuries or loss of items which might occur during the event. I consent to the use of my picture taken at this event for
any commercial purpose by Stonewall Resort or Stonewall State Park Foundation without compensation.

Construction Materials & Rules: ALL BOATS WILL BE INSPECTED PRIOR TO LAUNCH
 The ENTIRE boat must be built from cardboard, duct tape & environmentally safe paint. Duct tape may be used to reinforce
seams.
 Corrugated cardboard, carpet tubes, cardboard blocks can be found at recycling centers, appliance stores, department
stores, discount clubs and electronics stores.
 The crew must be visible from the shoulders up.
 Pre-treated cardboard such as waxed cardboard is allowed.
 No paint is allowed on the day of the event, all painted cardboard must be cured prior to boat launch.
 Paints are intended to be used as decorative elements only-not waterproofing.
 Fastening material is to be duct tape only. No string, wire, electrical tape, etc.
 Hull wrapping in duct tape is allowed.
 Decorations are allowed and ENCOURAGED, provided they are not used as structural or floatation elements.
 Crew costumes and themes are encouraged.
 NO wood, plastic, rubber, inflatable devices, Styrofoam, fiberglass, or varnish allowed.
 NO caulking compounds, two-part/mixed adhesives, glues or epoxy mixtures or coatings are allowed.
 NO electrical, gasoline, benzene, propane or other chemical or electrical propulsion systems are permitted.
 NO surfboard style boats allowed.
 Each crewman may have only one paddle.
 Each paddle should also be made of cardboard, duct tape and paint ONLY.
 Each boat must carry a closed one gallon plastic jug with a 15’ rope secured to the vessel. (Bass Class 1 to 2 jugs) (Musky
Class 3 to 4 jugs). Gallon jugs are to remain inside the boat while racing; they are not to be used as a floatation device for
the vessel. This is for use in locating and retrieving any sunken remains.
 Design techniques are left to builder within the restrictions listed. LET YOUR IMAGINATION TAKE OVER!

PARTICIPATION & BOAT CLASSIFICATIONS
BASS CLASS: 3 people and under
MUSKEY CLASS: 4 people and over
Participant Rules:
 Every crew member MUST WEAR A PERSONAL FLOATATION DEVICE (PFD) which will be provided by the Stonewall Resort
Marina.
 You CAN NOT race without proper signatures on the entry form.
 During competition, crew must be IN the boat, not towing it, or holding it in any way, or swimming or allowing the life
jacket to provide the floatation of the vessel.
 NO pets can occupy a boat during competition.
 Throwing water on another boat is reason for disqualification, unless said water comes from the incidental splash of a
paddle.
 Contestants are expected to maintain the decorum and dignity expected of yachtsmen.
 Sunken or discarded boats must be disposed of in designated trash receptacles.
 THIS IS A FUN EVENT!!! Any behavior that is deemed to be detrimental to the event or other participants will result in team
disqualification.
JUDGING/ TROPHIES;
 Boats will be launched two at a time. Each boat will be timed and recorded for final scoring.
 Fastest boat to complete the 100 yard course:
o 1st Place Trophy for each Class
o 2nd Place Trophy for each Class
o 3rd Place Trophy for each Class
In the event of a tie- additional match races may be ordered by the judges to establish a winner.
 Best Overall Design Trophy: Prior to the racing, the judging staff will examine all vessels and select the vessel whose
construction and appearance are deemed to be the best including team spirit. One member from each crew will have an
opportunity to “explain” their vessel’s design and significance.
 Most Spectacular Sinking Trophy: Determined by judging staff
