HSK jetties again fully booked for the Helsinki Boat Afloat Show. New boat
registrations growing.
The Helsinki Boat Afloat Show is been organised for the eighteenth time at the
Helsingfors Segelklubb (HSK) in Lauttasaari. All in all, the 38th boat-afloat show
organised in Helsinki will again fill the jetties and land-based sites with boats and
other marine industry products. There are 259 boats on show, of which 21 are
sailboats. A total of 124 exhibitors are participating in the event.
New boat registrations in Finland on the increase
Based on National Boat Register statistics, the number of boats subject to mandatory
registration (i.e. over 20 hp; more than 5,5m) can be considered a fair indication of
total consumer sales. According to the figures, 3093 boats were registered by the end
of July (+2,3%).
Registered boats can principally be divided as follows:
-
motorboats
2523 units
personal watercraft
470 units
rubber inflatable boats (RIBs) 47 units
sailboats
12 units
The trade in small craft, i.e. those not subject to mandatory registration, can be
indicated on the basis of wholesale delivery statistics. According to that, 2993 boats
(including rowing boats) under 4,5 meter of length, were delivered (- 5 %).
Boat exports
For the period January to May, the value of Finnish Marine Industry exports (based on
customs' statistics) increased by 7,3% to EUR 74,3 million. The main export
destinations were again Norway and Sweden. In unit terms, total exports for the
same period fell by 4,4 %, i.e. the average size of boats increased slightly. Customs’
authority statistics indicate that a total of 4268 boats were exported during the
above-mentioned period.

this represents a fall of 23,3 %. Of the total, 8738 (-15,4 %) were delivered on the
domestic market.
