DEBATE CLUB In Debate Club, students in grades 6-8 explore topical issues by researching both sides of an “argument” and presenting one side of this argument in a debate - with logic, evidence and passion - to persuade other club members that their side is right. We use Public Forum debate. Here is a link to Public Forum Debate format: https://debate.uvm.edu/dcpdf/PFNFL.pdf Students research a topic, discuss salient points, formulate an argument and conduct the formal debate. Students debate other club members at Maple Point. In the Spring each year, students participate in the Neshaminy Middle Schools District Debate Competition where club members from the three middle school come together to square off in a 3-round competition. The Debate Club is a fun and thought-provoking club open to all interested students. While increasing social awareness of current topics, club members also learn leadership skills, collaboration skills, presentation skills, listening, logic, and research and writing skills. Students can move on to the high school debate club. Being a Debate Club member is a pathway to future opportunity in high school, college in the workforce and in life! Open to all interested members; skills can be learned or honed! Debate Club will meet on Tuesdays after school in room B207. 2015-2016 Maple Point Middle School Clubs and Intramurals Interested?
