Link Leadership 2014-2015 Students helping students succeed! Mrs. DoBosh & Mrs. Freas The Link Leadership Peer Mentoring Program has been developed to help students make the transition to Coconino High School with specific interventions and support from older peers. Prior to the school year beginning, Link Leaders were assigned to 16-20 freshmen during freshman orientation, and will be responsible for 7-12 individually throughout the school year. Numerous times throughout the school year Link Leaders will be in contact with their assigned freshman students. This support continues throughout their first year of school. This program provides optimal opportunities for freshmen to become a part of the school community. While creating a sense of comfort for the incoming students, the Link concept also addresses the attitudes of the upper classmen toward the freshmen and respect for freshmen and other students becomes the norm. Expectations #1 you are a role model. Link Leaders represent Coconino High School at all times! You are expected to act as positive role models in and out of school 24 hours a day. You will be held accountable for your actions! Remember your actions in and out of school speak loudly! Please refer to the academic and nonacademic misconduct forms you and your parents have signed and agreed to. Participation Although daily points will not be given for attendance. Attendance in the Link Leadership class is vital to your overall grade. Missing class means missing assignments and important pieces of information for success in the Link Leadership class. Link Leadership T-shirts will be required to be worn and visible every Wednesday for the entire school day throughout the school year (unless otherwise notified). T-shirts are a must during required days and functions. Not wearing your T-shirt for required events will result in loss of participation points for that specific event, and/or not participating in that specific event. If you are put on academic probation per signed contract purposes and removed from the Link Leadership class for a period of time you will not be able to participate in any Link Leadership sponsored activities or class activities during that probation period. You will not be able to make up any points that are earned for those particular events or activities such as Special Friends, 9th grade 7th period Study Hall Meetings, Academic Follow-ups, Social Follow-Ups, Special Friends, and Special Events, etc. Mandatory Activities Through Out The Year But Not Limited To: Freshmen Orientation Mentoring freshmen 7th period Study Hall Lessons/Meetings PBIS Presentations/Videos Items pertaining to “Linking It Together” Portfolio Community Service outside of CHS New Student tours Peer Mediation Academic follow-ups (special lessons to be taught to freshmen) Social follow-ups (social events on campus for freshmen sponsored by links) Classroom presentations and projects Special friends at the elementary schools Lesson Topics Include But Not Limited To: Team and Climate Building Organization Skills Communication Facilitation and Teaching skills Personal Development Motivation Peer Mediation Goal Setting Bullying Acceptable electronic and safety usage Safe Social Networking Evaluations: Orientation Training & Freshman Orientation Weekly wearing of T-shirts on Wednesdays and required Link sponsored events Link Leadership Task Portfolio “Linking It Together” (to include daily journal writing, reflection writing, bell work, or class assignments). Dress Code & Electronic Usage: CHS classroom expectations state that electronic device use is directed by the teacher. Therefore cell phone use during class time and during functions with freshmen students, and special friends is not acceptable. This can result in a loss of event points. You are expected to dress according to the school dress code policy. You are important representatives of the school and are required to present yourself in such a way. When visiting other sites, placements etc., we need to dress appropriately to our surroundings. Therefore, that school’s dress code will then become our dress code.
