MONDAY 14TH- SUNDAY 20TH APRIL, 2014.
The Inter-Tropical Discontinuity (ITD) fluctuated between latitude 13.5oN and
latitude 16.1oN in the western border of the country and between latitude 11.2oN
and latitude 16.3oN in the eastern border. Its mean positions in the western and
eastern borders are 14.66oN and 13.59oN respectively. The maximum temperature
ranged between 42oC at Yola, Potiskum, Sokoto and 30oC at Jos. The minimum
temperature ranged between 26oC at Yelwa, Sokoto, Benin, Bauchi and 16oC at
Jos. The relative humidity ranged between 100% at Akure and 11% at Kaduna.
The maximum wind gust of 10m/s was recorded at Ijebu-Ode on the 18th of April,
2014. The highest daily rainfall of 51.7mm was recorded at Lafia on the 18th April,
2014. Figures 1-7 are the distribution maps of rainfall, horizontal visibility,
highest temperature, lowest temperature, highest relative humidity, lowest
relative humidity and maximum wind gust in the week respectively.
MONDAY (14TH): Generally, fine weather conditions prevailed throughout the
country, except Ikeja and Ijebu-Ode that had 3.8mm and 2.5mm rainfall
respectively. The maximum temperature ranged between 42oC at Yola and 27oC
at Lafia.
TUESDAY (15TH): Fine weather conditions prevailed throughout the country
except Portharcourt and Calabar that experienced 12.2mm and 0.3mm rainfall
respectively. The maximum temperature ranged between 40oC at Potiskum and
30oC at Port Harcourt.
WEDNESDAY (16TH): Thunderstorm were reported over Jos with 25.3mm
rainfall, Iseyin 10.5mm, Abuja 0.9mm, and Bida 0.4mm rainfall respectively. Fine
weather conditions prevailed in other parts of the country. The maximum
temperature ranged between 42oC at Yola, Potiskum and 28oC at Jos.
THURSDAY (17TH): Generally, fine weather conditions prevailed throughout
the country except Jos that had 10.4mm rainfall. The maximum temperature
ranged between 42oC at Yola, Potiskum and 30oC at Jos.
FRIDAY (18TH): Widespread thundery activity prevailed in many stations across
the country. Lafia had the highest rainfall of 51.7mm, Gombe 24.9mm, Lokoja
24.8mm, Akure 20.8mm, Ado-Ekiti 18.9mm, Kaduna 11.7mm, Abuja 8.4mm,
Minna 6.7mm, Enugu 6.3mm, Makurdi 5.2mm, Potiskum 4.2mm, Jos 3.0mm, and
Bida 1.8mm respectively. The maximum temperature ranged between 42oC at
Yola, Sokoto and 28oC at Jos.
SATURDAY (19TH): Thundery activity continued to be experienced over many
stations across the country. Ikeja had 23.5mm rainfall, Ijebu-Ode 23.8mm, Ibadan
19.0mm, Oshogbo and Makurdi 13.6mm, Ado –Ekiti 11.7mm, Lokoja 4.6mm,
Calabar 2.4mm, Minna 1.0mm, and Yola 0.4mm. The maximum temperature
ranged between 39oC at Yola, Katsina and 27oC at Ibadan.
SUNDAY (20TH): Generally, fine weather conditions prevailed except isolated
cases of rainfall in few places. Abuja had 6.0mm, Jos 3.6mm, Calabar 2.2mm,
and Benin 0.4mm respectively. The maximum temperature ranged between 41oC
at Yola, Sokoto, Kano and 30oC at Jos.
