02.11.2015 Dear parents, Welcome back to the second part of the autumn term. I would like to take this opportunity, as the Year 3 class teacher, to thank you for all of your support during the first term. It was great to meet so many of you at parents evening. Please continue to support us and help your child make the best possible progress. In Year 3, we are looking particularly at The Stone Age and Iron Age periods from history entitled ‘Stone & Bones.’ Our theme this term – “Stones & Bones” As part of theme we will look back in history and locate the Stone Age and Iron Age period on a timeline, learning about chronology and making links with other major events in more recent times. We will learn about some of the significant changes which took place in Britain during the Stone Age and Iron Age periods. We will look at prehistoric artefacts and look closely at Stonehenge and discover some of the history and secrets behind this wonder of the world. There will also be links to art of course in which will investigate cave paintings and patterns of the period. Literacy We will begin with Performance Poetry, so encourage your child to read poems aloud at home to build their confidence and appreciation of the poetry we shall be immersing them in. After this children will look at reports. We will look at a range of reports and their features. Children will create their own report. Mathematics In mathematics your child will be begin with addition and subtraction then moving onto Multiplication and Division, including understanding that one is the inverse of the other. Learning and knowing there Times table will help your child in all areas of the mathematics curriculum. Encourage your child to practice their times tables at home. We will continue developing your child’s basic number skills through halving, doubling, number bonds, sequence and patterns in numbers, times tables and then using and applying these skills to number problems, problem solving and opened ended enquiries. RE In RE we shall continue to learn about different faiths and their stories. Leading up to Christmas our emphasis will focus upon The Christian faith story. This term will focus on Dance. May I remind you that your child needs to wear appropriate PE pumps for PE lessons? Class trips Last terms, our trips out were a great success. I know your child will have great memories of the days out. They will have leant so much too. If you would like to see some of the photographs from these days out, why not visit Year 3’s class page on the school’s website. This term, I hope to take the whole class to visit The Liverpool Museum. How can you help your child? Please share your knowledge and understanding of The Stone Age period, expose them to poetry, encourage them to read it aloud to you. Encourage them to research and find things out in a library, from books, through pictures or by using the internet safely at home. Spend 10 minutes each evening listening to your child read –ask questions about what they have read and this will make a big difference in their reading, writing and spelling. Encourage your child to complete all homework tasks and return these on time; this work should take them no more than 1 hour each week. Homework will go out to children on Friday for return on Monday. Best wishes, Mr Mohan (Year 3 Class teacher)
