SOUTHERN SYDNEY TENNIS TEAMS CHAMPIONSHIP
FORMAT
1. The competition is open to students currently enrolled in a Southern Sydney
Secondary high school. Minimum age 12, Maximum age 19
2. The competition is a knockout. Schools will play 8 sets containing 4 lots of
singles and 4 lots of doubles. There are 3 rounds and the winner of the third
round will represent Southern Sydney at the NSWCCC teams championships in
Bathurst in June.
3. Schools who compete at NSWCCC need to organise their own transport and
accommodation at the event. Either a teacher or parent needs to act as the
manager at the event.
4. Schools need to fill out the registration forms and send these to
Rachael.redman@clancy.catholic.edu.au no later then Friday Week 8
5. A draw will be set up based on ability and player experience
6. The first round is to be played no later then Friday week 1 term 2
7. The second round is to be played no later then Friday Week 3 term 2
8. The third round is to be played no later then Friday week 6 term 2
9. The winning schools need to send through the results to Rachael no later then
48 hours after the match has taken place.
10. It is the responsibility of the schools to organise a venue and split the bill of the
court hire.
11. Each school is to provide a tin of balls for the match. The preferred choice of
tennis ball is the Slazenger (Green Can). It is also recommended that synthetic
grass be used to play the matches as this is the court surface for NSWCCC. If a
synthetic grass court is not available, clay or hard court is fine.
12. The first two round will be split into East and West divisions. The third round will
be the winner of East versus the winner of the West

CHAMPIONSHIP RULES
1. Team will consist of 4 players – 4 boys in the boys – 4 girls in the girls – boys and girls
competition are conducted as separate events
2. Players will be numbered 1 to 4 – with 1 being the strongest player and 4 the weakest
3. This order can not be changed throughout the event
4. The order of play is ( 8 sets)

2 doubles

4 singles – 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4.

2 reverse doubles – play the opposite doubles pair from the start
5. Doubles pairs can be any combination from the 4 players eg 1and 2, 3 and 4, 1and 4, 2 and 3
6. Doubles pairs may be changed from match to match but not during a match
7. The match will consist of 8 sets – each set being first to 6 with a tie breaker at 6-6.
8. The winner will be decided on sets first eg 5 sets to 3
9. If the sets are 4-4 then the team winning the most games will be declared the winner
10. If sets and games are equal then a tie breaker will be played for each singles match eg 1v1,
2v2, 3v3, 4v4, using a tie breaker only – team winning the most tie breaker will be declared
the winner
11. If tie breakers are equal then the team which won the number 1 singles full match will be
declared the winner.
12. Students are to call the score during the match. The player who is serving needs to call the
score after each point. Each player makes the line calls at their end. Should their be a dispute
on the court, a teacher from wither school will step onto the court and supervise the match.
The students will still call the match, however should the wrong call be made, then a teacher
steps in and overrides the call.
