Once I arrived to see the city and the country, it was ok, nothing spectacular or exciting. When I was walking through the rural to the metropolitan areas, the scenery looked like a really low quality movie, a “B” rated movie. Every building, whether it was commercial or residential, the buildings were all lacking paint. Some buildings were somewhat unsure if they were residential or commercial. Several areas of the streets needed road repairs. The commerce in this country was seriously lacking, because the economic level was almost in poverty stage. Since this morning, I and three other were touring the countryside. By the time we decided to have lunch, it was already 2:30pm. We found this Chinese restaurant and decided to dine. I was so hungry, I could eat a horse! Well, on the menu, there was no horse cuisine, but I finally chose the beef and broccoli meal. Within 10 minutes, my lunch was served. It smelled really good, the garlic and onion peels added to the beef and broccoli, with a bowl of white rice. The flavor and the texture were delicious, until I tasted the beef. Beef didn’t taste like beef back at home and it was so tough it felt like I was chewing on a really tough licorice. My friend Sean asked me what dish I ordered. I told him beef and broccoli. He asked me if we had seen any cattle in this country. I said no, as I started to stare at the mystery meat on my fork, and tried to guess what it was. That portion of the meat looked like a small ear. As I looked around, low behold, my eyes caught a small head with beady eyes popped up above the countertop of the bar behind us. It hopped onto the counter, and darted for the back door. It was a short hair, long bodied rat!!! I was about to barf…I couldn’t imagine eating anything else in Malaysia.
