PRESS RELEASE 21 July 2014 Cogent teams up with English Winter Fair to launch National Pedigree Calf Show Cogent Breeding Limited has teamed up with the organisers of the English Winter Fair livestock showcase, Stafford, to introduce a new National Pedigree Calf Show for all beef breeds at this year’s event on the weekend of November 15-16, offering a £1,000 cash prize for the Overall Champion and £500 for the Reserve Champion. The new National Pedigree Calf Show will include specific breed championships for pedigree British Limousin, British Charolais, British Blue and British Simmental calves, with an additional class for Any Other Native Breed. As well as sponsorship from Cogent Breeding Ltd, the classes are being supported by auctioneers, breed clubs and related companies. Announcement of the finalised age range for prospective entries will be posted on the English Winter Fair’s (EWF’s) dedicated webpage at www.staffscountyshowground.co.uk shortly. Attracting cash prizes, the individual breed championship classes will be run as part of the main ring events on Saturday 15th November with the Overall Interbreed Calf Championship forming part of the EWF’s Supreme Inter-breed Titles programme on Sunday 16th November. “We are proud to be involved in the first National Pedigree Calf Show and look forward to seeing the very best of the UK’s beef calves in November,” says Boomer Birch, Beef Sire Analyst for Cogent Breeding Limited. “The new show is the perfect opportunity for beef breeders to show and promote the future stars and genetics of each breed to pedigree and commercial farmers from across the UK and will be a welcome extension to the show’s well established beef classes,” he adds. Stuart Clatworthy, Chairman of the English Winter Fair, agrees adding: “As a beef farmer and butcher I see every day the need to get the pedigree and commercial sectors together so we can produce quality meat for the consumer. We all need good bulls or access to AI and this new calf show is the perfect platform to do just that.” The National Pedigree Calf Show will include individual breed classes for Junior and Senior bull and Junior and Senior heifer calves. From these classes an Overall Male and Overall Female Champion for each breed will then compete for an Overall Breed Champion’s title ahead of the coveted Inter-breed Champion’s title the following day. Entries for the inaugural National Pedigree Calf Show can be made via the EWF website (see above) or by contacting the Show Secretary, Kate Tomlinson, on 01283 820012. Entries close on October 15th. -endsNotes to editors Cogent is the pioneering business behind sexed semen technology and supply and is the UK market leader.
