Lower Mainland West Regional Debate Championship January 18th & 19th, 2014 West Point Grey Academy & St. John’s School are happy to invite you to the Lower Mainland West Regional Debate Championship on January 18th & 19th, 2014. Due to the increase in membership in our region, this competition will be hosted at two locations. West Point Grey Academy will host the Novice and Junior categories. St. John’s School will host the Senior category. Please review the attached schedules for each location. Registration Cost and Judges Registration opens at noon on Tuesday December 17th, 2013. Registration closes at noon on Friday January 3, 2014. Registration fees are $40 per student. This fee includes the $10 DSABC Regionals levy. Registration may be paid upon arrival at the tournament via cash or cheque. Please issue two cheques addressed to the appropriate school if you have students competing at both locations. DSABC policy requires that debaters must have must have attended at least one debate competitions over the past year to be eligible to advance to Regionals (pizza debates with a minimum of 2 rounds can be included). Please be sure to record this information on the registration form. Registration will not be accepted if teams do not include this information. Teams may register up to 4 teams (in any combination) in the Novice and Junior categories. A maximum of 3 teams may register in the Senior category. Please include any extra teams on the wait-list; we will contact you as soon as possible after the registration deadline to inform you if any wait-listed teams will be allowed to compete. All teams must send at least one judge to accompany them. Teams that do not supply a judge may be disqualified from the tournament. Please record the names of your judges on the registration form. This tournament will be bracketed. Junior Debaters will debate 2 rounds of prepared debate in Cross-Examination Style and 2 rounds of impromptu debate in CNDF. Novice debaters will debate 2 rounds of prepared debate in Cross-Ex and 2 rounds of impromptu debate in Cross-Ex. Topics Seniors: THBT Canada should boycott the Sochi Games. Junior and Novice: BIRT schools should have random drug testing. *Please note that impromptu rounds will have different topics for each round with 15 minute preparation time prior to each round.
