Stanley School PTO Minutes October 10, 2012 Welcome Principal Report: MCAS Results – Mr. Daniels - - - Mr. Daniels entry plan/school improvement plan is driven by collaboration between teachers and principal School Council meeting was held Oct 1 where action plan was discussed School Council made up of teachers and parents: Mrs. Norton, Mrs. Sheehan, Mrs. Colletti, Johannah Morgen, Sarah Marston and Julie Jensen Generally high scores with dips in 2009 and 2012 Compared to other elementary schools in Swampscott, we are not making as much progress. Our student growth percentile is below 50% State looking at % of high needs student population (High needs includes students with disabilities, low income and ELL). High needs percentages for 2009 and 2012 were 11% Mr. Daniels approach to addressing drop in scores is increasing “Differentiated Instruction.” This would include professional development for teachers to learn better methods to serve our high end students as well as high needs population According to Mr. Daniels, “teaching to the middle” gets scores like this. This is why differentiated instruction is so important Teachers are very aware of their team goals and working together to look at what works: i.e. Mrs. Norton’s weekly math challenge. An “extra” opportunity for kids to be challenged Many parents stated a concern for increased focus on our accelerated population and moving kids from low to average and meet expectations to exceeding Pam Angelakis currently evaluating budget for professional development District will have to look at reallocating money because there is no extra Stanley is now a level 2 school thereby making Swampscott at level 2 district Wish List from teachers - New laptop cart 3 Smart Boards for Interventionist, ELL teachers and speech teacher I-PAD for speech teacher Professional Development library for teachers (Mr. Daniels) Maureen Kellet, Food Services - We are seeing results of the Child Nutrition Act more this year Maureen working with marketing consultants and nutritionist on how to incorporate these changes Required to have 5 options daily: a milk, protein, grain, vegetable and fruit.
