2014-2015 CEC Daniels Fund Information 2014-2015 Daniels Fund Scholarship Is this the right scholarship for me and should I apply? To be eligible to apply for a Daniels Scholarship, students must satisfy all of the following: Demonstrate “Daniels Scholar” characteristics o academic performance or promise o strength of character o leadership potential, emotional maturity and stability o well-rounded personality, abilities, and broad interests o the potential to contribute to one’s community later in life Be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident of the United States Be a resident of Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, or Wyoming Be a senior graduating this academic year from any high school in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, or Wyoming Earn an ACT composite score of 17 or higher with no component score (math, English, reading, science) lower than 17; or an SAT combined math and critical reading score of 830 or higher, with math score no lower than 400 and critical reading no lower than 440. All test scores must come from a single test, and must be submitted by the application deadline. Superscoring is not allowed. Demonstrate financial need How does the Daniels Scholarship Program determine financial need? The Daniels Fund assesses financial need by evaluating a number of factors such as the income and assets of the applicant’s parent(s) or legal guardian(s), the income and assets of the applicant, and individual circumstances. Students do not need to be Pell eligible to be financially eligible for the Daniels Scholarship Program. Applicants must complete the first part of the online application, which is an eligibility questionnaire requiring financial information from the applicant and his/her parent(s) or legal guardian(s). Applicants who do not satisfy the eligibility requirements, will not be able to proceed through the application. Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements, will be required to submit documents that will be used to verify their eligibility, such as official ACT/SAT scores; citizenship and residency documentation; and financial documents. We ask that your responses be as specific as possible. Your attention to detail and your motivation to succeed are demonstrated through your correct use of grammar and spelling. Please take the time to carefully proofread your answers and avoid using abbreviations, slang, or texting language in your answers. Max 250 words Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Where do you believe this came from? What does character mean to you? Provide a specific example of a time you’ve shown character. You have tried to accomplish a goal and failed many times. Recommendations have considerable impact on your application. Be very thoughtful about selecting your Recommender. Your recommendation must come from someone at your high school (i.e. principal, teacher, guidance counselor, coach, etc.). Mrs. Abbott is happy to write recommendations You must tell Mrs. Abbott who you asked to be your recommender so she can communicate Daniels Fund requirements with that person! References (3) provide the names and contact information for three additional people Daniels Fund can speak with about your candidacy for the Daniels Scholarship Program. References can be people from your school, an employer, community leader, mentor, scoutmaster, community service coordinator, religious leader, etc. These people must be at least 21 years of age and cannot be related to you.
