INFECTIOUS DISEASES, ANTIMICROBIAL STEWARDSHIP CLINICAL SPECIALIST POSITION – MEDICAL UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA We are seeking applicants for a Clinical Specialist position in Infectious Diseases, Antimicrobial Stewardship at the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina Position responsibilities include: working on a multidisciplinary antimicrobial stewardship team (two infectious diseases physicians and one clinical pharmacy specialist) to ensure the coordination of infectious disease stewardship activities, proactive monitoring and intervention on various antimicrobial programs, prospective audit on positive critical site cultures, and working with clinical microbiology to ensure appropriate follow-up on cultures. These activities should culminate in achieving quality patient outcomes, cost savings, and other positive outcome goals for the antimicrobial stewardship team, which in turn support the Medical University of South Carolina enterprise’s mission and vision. Other responsibilities comprise the education of health care providers on the appropriate use of antimicrobial agents, precepting and mentoring pharmacy residents and students, and creating and modifying protocols that center on best practice. Academic appointments are likely in the Division of Infectious Diseases (College of Medicine) and the College of Pharmacy. The MUSC Medical Center is a 700-bed tertiary care academic medical center providing care for patients of Charleston and the state of South Carolina. In addition to general medical and surgical services, MUSC offers a variety of specialty services including cardiothoracic, pediatrics. transplant and neurosurgery, level I trauma center, digestive disease, psychiatry and level III neonatal intensive care. The medical center is comprised of four hospitals, Ashley River Tower, Children’s Hospital, Institute of Psychiatry, and University Hospital. Outpatient facilities include the Hollings Cancer, Ashley River Tower Clinics, Rutledge Tower Clinics, Family Medicine Center and affiliated faculty practice ambulatory care centers. The Department of Pharmacy Services provides service to patients on a 24-hour basis through multiple inpatient and ambulatory pharmacies to fulfill the department’s mission, vision, and goals of providing optimal pharmaceutical care to all patients.
