You should print this sheet out and then continue to the next step where your registration will take place. It is your responsibility to ensure that you register correctly ********** REGISTRATION RULES 1. Maximum amount of modules you can register for in one academic year is 4. 2. Please note that you can only register for a level 2 module in a subject if you have successfully passed the level 1 module e.g. to register for HIS3 or any post-foundation History module you must have successfully completed HIS1 (or have been granted an exemption from the HIS1 module). 3. You may select no more than two modules from the same subject in any academic year. 4. You cannot take two even or odd numbered modules in the same subject in the one year e.g. you cannot register for LIT3 and LIT5 in the same year. a. The following Psychology modules count as even numbered modules: PY200: Social and Organisational Psychology, PY230: Cognitive Psychology and Biopsychology and PY310: Abnormal and Counselling Psychology. b. The following Psychology modules count as odd numbered modules: PY100: Psychology Foundation, PY210: Developmental and Educational Psychology and PY300: Individual Differences. 6. Students taking HIS5 should have completed, along with HIS1, at least two other history modules, including HIS3. Students must have completed at least four History modules before registering for HIS6. If there is one History module outstanding, it must be taken in the same year as HIS6. 7. PHIL1 and PHIL2 must both be successfully completed before registering for PHIL6. 8. Students must have completed at least four other Psychology modules before registering for PSY6A*. If there is one Psychology module outstanding, it must be taken in the same year as PSY6A*. 9. PSY6A* & SOC6B: Students may not take both Psy6A* and Soc6B (i.e. a student who has taken one of these modules is then restricted from taking the other) 10. PHIL6, LIT6, HIS6, PSY6A* and SOC6B: Please note these are advanced modules and involve the completion of a large dissertation. This type of module requires a high level of commitment and therefore students should carefully consider registering for this module along with other modules. Many students find it desirable to take this type of module on its own, or with one other module (the feasibility of taking this module in combination with other modules will, of course, depend on the capability of the student and the amount of time the student can dedicate to their studies). a. Also please note that the completion of a Psy6A* or Soc6B independent research project involves the successful application for ethical approval of the project. If this approval is not granted a student cannot proceed with the module. 11. SOC6B and PSY6A* involve a mandatory introduction day (typically in Oct) and a 2.5 day mandatory research school (typically in Jan) 12. HIS6 involves mandatory tutorials (typically) in October and March. 13. LIT6 involves mandatory tutorials (typically) in October, January and April. 14. PHIL6 involves mandatory tutorials (typically) in October and March. 15. Students must have regular access to a good quality Computer (loaded with Microsoft Office) and a good quality broadband Internet connection. The web browser a student uses must be able to play Macromedia Flash, Shockwave, Java and the Adobe Acrobat PDF file reader. In order to facilitate online communication in live, virtual classrooms students should have a high quality headset/microphone (built in microphones and speakers in laptops are not sufficient) and a webcam is also desirable. It is expected that students will have a computer competency level equivalent to the European Computer Driving Licence (EDCL) (http://www.ecdl.com/) Students must be familiar with using email, browsing the Internet, and using the Microsoft word processing package. The programme team cannot take responsibility for whether, or to what extent, a particular learning material is accessible on a particular device in a particular instance. In particular the programme team cannot take responsibility for learning material hosted by a third party, for example a video hosted on an external website. Students with Apple-Mac computers may encounter specific issues as learning materials and software are typically designed on/for the Windows operating system. Where students are provided with software, for example SPSS, it will be for Windows Computers.
