****IMPORTANT MESSAGE****
The purpose of this information sheet is to allow you view all modules connected
to the Qualification, optional and core. You should print this sheet out and then
continue to the next step where your registration will take place.
It is your responsibility to ensure that you register correctly
**********
REGISTRATION RULES
1. Maximum amount of modules you can register for in one academic year is 4.
2. Please note that you can only register for a level 2 module in a subject if you have
successfully passed the level 1 module e.g. to register for HIS3 or any post-foundation
History module you must have successfully completed HIS1 (or have been granted an
exemption from the HIS1 module).
3. You may select no more than two modules from the same subject in any academic
year.
4. You cannot take two even or odd numbered modules in the same subject in the one
year e.g. you cannot register for LIT3 and LIT5 in the same year.
a. The following Psychology modules count as even numbered modules: PY200:
Social and Organisational Psychology, PY230: Cognitive Psychology and
Biopsychology and PY310: Abnormal and Counselling Psychology.
b. The following Psychology modules count as odd numbered modules: PY100:
Psychology Foundation, PY210: Developmental and Educational Psychology
and PY300: Individual Differences.
6. Students taking HIS5 should have completed, along with HIS1, at least two other
history modules, including HIS3. Students must have completed at least four History
modules before registering for HIS6. If there is one History module outstanding, it
must be taken in the same year as HIS6.
7. PHIL1 and PHIL2 must both be successfully completed before registering for
PHIL6.
8. Students must have completed at least four other Psychology modules before
registering for PSY6A*. If there is one Psychology module outstanding, it must be
taken in the same year as PSY6A*.
9. PSY6A* & SOC6B: Students may not take both Psy6A* and Soc6B (i.e. a student
who has taken one of these modules is then restricted from taking the other)
10. PHIL6, LIT6, HIS6, PSY6A* and SOC6B: Please note these are advanced
modules and involve the completion of a large dissertation. This type of module
requires a high level of commitment and therefore students should carefully consider
registering for this module along with other modules. Many students find it desirable
to take this type of module on its own, or with one other module (the feasibility of
taking this module in combination with other modules will, of course, depend on the
capability of the student and the amount of time the student can dedicate to their
studies).
a. Also please note that the completion of a Psy6A* or Soc6B independent
research project involves the successful application for ethical approval of
the project. If this approval is not granted a student cannot proceed with
the module.
11. SOC6B and PSY6A* involve a mandatory introduction day (typically in Oct) and
a 2.5 day mandatory research school (typically in Jan)
12. HIS6 involves mandatory tutorials (typically) in October and March.
13. LIT6 involves mandatory tutorials (typically) in October, January and April.
14. PHIL6 involves mandatory tutorials (typically) in October and March.
15. The modules to be presented in 2015-2016 are:

16. Students must have regular access to a good quality Computer (loaded with
Microsoft Office) and a good quality broadband Internet connection. The web
browser a student uses must be able to play Macromedia Flash, Shockwave, Java and
the Adobe Acrobat PDF file reader. In order to facilitate online communication in
live, virtual classrooms students should have a high quality headset/microphone (built
in microphones and speakers in laptops are not sufficient) and a webcam is also
desirable. It is expected that students will have a computer competency level
equivalent to the European Computer Driving Licence (EDCL)
(http://www.ecdl.com/) Students must be familiar with using email, browsing the
Internet, and using the Microsoft word processing package. The programme team
cannot take responsibility for whether, or to what extent, a particular learning material
is accessible on a particular device in a particular instance. In particular the
programme team cannot take responsibility for learning material hosted by a third
party, for example a video hosted on an external website. Students with Apple-Mac
computers may encounter specific issues as learning materials and software are
typically designed on/for the Windows operating system. Where students are provided
with software, for example SPSS, it will be for Windows Computers. Apple-Mac
versions of software will not be provided.
