Each term of the Board lasts four years with the new term of the Board of Management starting in December 2015. There are eight members who sit on the Board, two teachers (one of whom is the Principal), two Patron nominees, two Community nominees and two parent nominees (one male and one female). The school has received nominations for the positions of parent nominees and a ballot form has been sent home in the children’s school bags, one for each parent/guardian. Please can each family vote for both the father and mother nominee and then return the forms with the children by Wednesday October 14th . We greatly appreciate your support and assistance. Booklists for the Year: There are still a large number of parent who have yet to pay for their child’s books. The school is not in a position to pay for students’ books. Please arrange a payment plan with Jenny if you require assistance. Junior Infants: €48 (€50 already paid upon enrolment) Senior Infants: €100 First Class: €110 Second Class: €120 Third Class: €120 Fourth Class: €120 Fifth Class: €120 Sixth Class: €120 The Flags for Schools Initiative: Eater 1916 Commemoration To commemorate the centenary of the 1916 Rising and to celebrate 100 years since the Proclamation of the Irish Republic, the Government has tasked Óglaigh na hÉireann with delivering a National Flag to every Primary School in the country. On Thursday next, October 15th, the Defence Forces will present the school with the Tri-colour in the hall. It will be a short ceremony with the children singing two Irish songs and the older children answering questions about the Proclamation and the 1916 Easter Rising. Anyone who wishes to attend at 9.30am, is very welcome to come. Parents Parking in the School Reminder: parents cars are not permitted onto the school grounds during school hours as there is no space for them and it poses a serious threat to the health and safety of our pupils. Wet Mornings: Monday last was the first wet morning we have had since returning to school this year. We invite children into the hall from 8.20am if it is raining. Please enter the hall via the infant yard (which has astro turf). Teachers will be present to supervise until the class teachers come to collect the children. Parents are asked not to wait in the hall as the space is limited and children cannot enter the hall. Faith Formation for Special Needs Children The Parents Group for children with Special Educational Needs who wish for their children to attend Faith Formation are meeting this Sunday, October 11th in the Church of the Visitation, Drynam after 12o’clock Mass. Anyone who wishes to attend, please come along. Sarah Hare is also available to deal with queries on 0872592444. School Photographer Tom Dandy Junior Infant Photographs will be taken on Tuesday 13th October in the school. No Sibling photographs will be taken. . Toys in School: Children are not to bring toys to school unless there is a specific project taking place in school. Toys are a great distraction in the classroom during teaching time and in yard time they can cause great distress if broken or lost. Please keep toys at home. Adult Choir with Paul Paul Glennon (language support teacher) is starting an adult choir in the school on Tuesday 6th October 2015, 7pm-8:30pm at Holywell ETNS. It is open to all adults who enjoy singing and would like to participate in a choir. If you, your friend or neighbour are interested, please do pop into the school on Tuesday evening. Winter Concert 2016 This year the Winter Concert will take place over two dates during the school day. Tuesday December 15th Junior and Senior Infants concert takes place with the two pre-school classes and children from 1st-6th class will have their concert on Wednesday December 16th. We are giving parents notice for those who need to take time off work. Second Level Campaign for a Swords Educate Together Secondary School The Second Level Campaign for a Swords Educate Together Secondary School is meeting local media in Swords ETNS in Applewood on Tuesday October 20th at 7.30pm. It is very important that as many parents and students are present to lend their voices and support to the campaign. Please support the cause!
