As a member of Student Council it is my responsibility to be a positive role model. I must adhere to all school policies and guidelines. I am aware that my class attendance, behaviour, uniform compliance, academic standing and commitment to Student Council will be monitored throughout my term. Failing to meet the above criteria may result in my removal from Student Council. Application must be submitted by Friday May 3rd Interviews will take place on Tuesday May 6th The campaign will run from Tuesday May 13th until Tuesday May 20th Speeches will take place on Tuesday May 20th, with elections following immediately after. What is Student Council? We are the elected representatives for all secondary students at St. Michael CHS We embody the school vision “called together to learn” We organize fun activities for the student body such as: dodgeball tournaments, BINGO, MOGA, the Christmas assembly, dances, pep rallies and much more! We serve on the Board-Wide Student Senate, which consists of representatives from all secondary schools in our Board We attend exciting events such as the Ontario Student Leadership Conference in Niagara Falls in November We develop our leadership skills through practice, with guidance from our Teacher Representatives We meet weekly at lunch hour on Mondays We serve as role models for the student body in all aspects of our daily lives Student Council 2014-15 Campaign Rules and Guidelines ALL nominees (Grade Reps and Executive) are to campaign from Tuesday May 13th to Tuesday May 20th All positions will be voted for on Tuesday May 20th Grade Rep nominees will not deliver a speech ALL Executive nominees will deliver a speech Campaigning for Student Council Campaign will run from 7:45 a.m. on Tuesday May 13th to Tuesday May 20th ALL campaign materials are to be taken down no later than 2:20pm on Tuesday May 20th. Each candidate is responsible for removing his/her own posters and other campaign materials (eg: closing facebook pages, etc…) Campaigning can involve, but is not limited to, posters, flyers, social media, stickers, buttons, etc. **Nominees are limited to 2 large, Bristol-board sized posters and 15 flyersized posters at the school! If using social media to promote your campaign, please remember to be appropriate and respectful. NO slanderous campaigning! Respect and support your fellow nominees. All campaign materials are to reflect the nature of our Catholic school environment Speeches All Executive Council nominees will deliver a speech on Tuesday May 20th, period 1 Speeches are to be no more than 3 minutes in length You may incorporate media into your speech (video, music, etc.); however, you must address the crowd, on your own, for at least 1 minute of your allotted speech time You may use props, costumes, etc. to enhance your speech Remember that your target audience is your peers! Tell them why you are the best candidate to represent the St. Mike’s student body on student council! The order in which speeches are presented will be selected at random the morning of May 20th. Elections Elections will take place immediately following speeches Grade 9, 10 and 11 will vote for Executive Grade 8 will vote for the two Grade 9 reps Grade 9s will vote for the Grade 10 rep Grade 10s will vote for the Grade 11 rep Grade 11s will vote for the Grade 12 rep After the votes have been tabulated, the Student Council Nominee Selection Committee will determine which position the final 8 executive winners will take on for the 2014-15 student council Students who have successfully completed 1, 2 or 3 years on Student Council may benefit from a new reward system that affords them 10 bonus votes for each year of successful service. The Student Council Nominee Selection Committee will determine if a student will receive this benefit.
