Santa Barbara, CA, February 7, 2016 – SUMMERDANCE Santa Barbara and the Lobero Theatre
Foundation are thrilled to welcome choreographer Larry Keigwin for DANCEworks fifth anniversary
residency. Keigwin and his dance company, KEIGWIN + COMPANY (K+C), are currently celebrating their
tenth anniversary. They will enjoy a creative residency February 9-March 2, 2013 at the historic Lobero
Theatre in Santa Barbara, CA, during which they will create and premiere new works both on and offstage. While no one can forget Keigwin’s s spectacular performance in 2010 of No Exit and Bolero Santa
Barbara, K + C will share equally exciting new work for 12 dancers that has not been seen here before.
The residency will launch with an Open Call on February 12, inviting members of the public to perform in
a large- celebratory music video to be rehearsed and filmed during the first week of
the Keigwin residency at iconic spots within Santa Barbara. The cast is open to all levels and ages of
dancers or dance enthusiasts. For additional information and rehearsal schedule, visit
SBDANCEworks.com.
In addition, K + C will also teach master classes in the Dance Departments at UCSB and a public master
class at SBCC. Stay tuned to SBDANCEworks.com for schedule and registration information.
Boogie along with KEIGWIN + COMPANY at Oreana Winery on February 22 for a DANCEworks
fundraising party hosted by Larry Keigwin, featuring a performance by K+C, live DJ, and
popular Zumba instructor Josette Roozen-Tkacik leading guests in fun-filled Zumba moves. Tickets are
available for $25 at Lobero.com, or can be purchased for $30 at the door. The ticket price includes one
free drink.
The culminating performances of the 2013 DANCEworks residency with KEIGWIN + COMPANY will take
place on March 1 and 2 at the Lobero Theatre. The program will include a premiere of the work created
during their DANCEworks residency and a showing of the community music video. While in residence,
K+C will be exploring the creation of new solos and duets that investigate love, passion, and aggression,
set to the songs of iconic Mexican ranchera singer Chavela Vargas. The program will also include
Megalopolis, a work that blends the structure of a futuristic city with the vibrancy of its late-night scene
performed to a mash-up of music by Steve Reich and pop artist M.I.A. Also on the program, Love Songs
is a romantic and playful series of duets danced around the stages of love, unfolding to the sounds of
Aretha Franklin, Roy Orbison, and Nina Simone. The fashion-inspired Runaway, called "a thrilling coup d'

theater" by Vanity Fair, showcases 12 dancers in 1960’s wear moving down a runway of light in striking
poses and bursts of aggression. K+C will also share the new 12 Chairs, which examines the use of a chair
as an extension of body and a way to conjure emotion, set to a driving original score by Jonathan
Melville Pratt.

Since starting his own eponymous company in 2003, Larry Keigwin’s star has continued to rise. His
choreography is clever, sexy, daring, and undeniably cool. He’s put his signature spin on Broadway,
ballet and beyond, bringing his refreshing vision of dance that embodies a theatrical sense of wit, style
and heart to national and international audiences. In 2010, he was named the Vail International Dance
Festival’s first artist in residence and staged the opening event of Vogue’s Fashion Week: “Fashion’s
Night Out: The Show,” which featured over 150 top models. 2011 saw him choreographing the new
musical Tales of the City, and the award-winning off-Broadway production of RENT. Keigwin most
recently created a new ballet with the Royal New Zealand Ballet in February 2012. Other choreographic
credits include work with the pop band Fischerspooner, comedian Murray Hill, and as an associate
choreographer for The Radio City Rockettes and the Off-Broadway musical The Wild Party.
“I am thrilled to be returning for another DANCEworks residency in 2013! This residency provides
vital resources for me to devote the time and energy necessary to investigate new ways of dancemaking and creative collaboration. The support and encouragement I receive at DANCEworks is
immensely valuable and I am very grateful for it.” – Larry Keigwin
DANCEworks is a groundbreaking collaboration between SUMMERDANCE Santa Barbara and the Lobero
Theatre Foundation designed to offer notable choreographers a month-long residency to create,

way. DANCEworks is gaining broad recognition within the world of contemporary dance and has already
contributed to the careers of groundbreaking choreographers Aszure Barton, Larry Keigwin, Doug Elkins,
and Brian Brooks.
