For Release 06.07.15 Woodhayes Gallery Announces its Inaugural Exhibition Dick Hewitson & Maisie Parker : Metamorphosis Honiton—Woodhayes Gallery announces its inaugural exhibition: Metamorphosis featuring the work of artists Dick Hewitson and Maisie Parker, which opens on Saturday 7th November 2015 . “We are so excited to be hosting our first exhibition at Woodhayes Gallery,” said Greg Page-Turner (Owner Woodhayes Gallery). “The gallery has been purpose-built as a contemporary, exhibitions’ space and we are thrilled to welcome Dick Hewitson and Maisie Parker as our first featured artists. We hope to encourage many South West-based artists to exhibit at this stunning new venue” Both the exhibiting artists are based in the South West : Dick Hewitson is a Dorset painter and Maisie Parker, a printmaker from Devon. About the artists Dick Hewitson has lived in Dorset for over 40 years. His interpretations of landscapes, ranging from contemporary figurative to abstract are mainly painted in oils. After initial research in the field, creating rapid sketches in pencil, ink or charcoal, Dick returns to create the artwork in his studio. He often also incorporates charcoal marks into his oil paintings. Colour is a significant aspect of his work, blending subtle colour mixes for his paintings. “When walking, I always carry a sketch book, as I am looking for something which triggers an emotional response. The landscape is not a ‘view’, I feel immersed in it,” explained Dick, “Drawing helps me, as an artist, to see. My landscape work draws on feeling, memory and understanding.” Maisie Parker is a freelance artist, painter, printer and illustrator. She works in mixed print media, although drawing is at the heart of her work. “Drawing is a way of knowing, a mode of enquiry and a visual language. Life drawing is the source of all my print work and is ongoing. It is the most important part of my art,” explained Maisie. “Printmaking lends itself to repetition, and here I have produced work based on life drawings, using screen printing, lino printing, mono printing and experimental oil pastel screen printing.” “I love the idea of the repetition of images and use it throughout much of my work. I have found a new and vibrant palette, which has spilled over into my long-standing interest in life painting, and has tapped into a deeply buried childhood enjoyment of colour.” About Woodhayes Gallery : this creative space provides artists and artisans with a contemporary gallery for hire in an inspiring, rural setting amongst the Blackdown Hills, just 1.5 miles from the antiques town of Honiton.
