September 2014

Dear FSS Families,

What a wonderful start to the year! FSS goals for this year are to increase student knowledge in the 7

Habits, continue the mission of all students being college ready and increasing parent participation and involvement. We have so many fun and engaging activities planned. You can learn about the activities from reading the monthly newsletter, listening to any school/home recordings, reading the teacher monthly newsletter, checking out our website or friending us on Facebook. I encourage you to get connected in some way.

The month of September we will be focusing on Habit #2 Begin with the end in mind. Leader in me students plan ahead and set realistic goals. They do things that have meaning and make a difference toward achieving their goals. They look for ways to be a good citizen. They organize themselves daily. Parents, engage your student to make a daily list or agenda and check on their progress each day. This is an excellent strategy for all of us to use to keep organized! Use this language with your children.

Warmly,

Stephenie Martinez

Principal

School Procedures

Drop off and pick up is a really busy time that requires a lot of patience. Here is a quick run down of how it works. We have two locations: the front grass and the MEE car loop. If you are a walker, use the front of the school and drop off and pick up at the grass area. If you pick up in a car, get in the car loop line and please continue to pull up to the front of the line or until you get your child. Never double park and never leave your car. You may park in the parking lot and walk to the MEE grass to pick up your child. This is a good plan if you are picking up a kindergartener as well as an older child, then, you won’t be holding up the line while waiting for your older child. The entire pick up line takes about 15 min.

Families, please come share lunch with your student!

Now on alternating

Tuesdays and Fridays to accommodate more parent schedules.

PE info

Hello…my name is Lawren Hunter and I am the new Physical Education Teacher here at Fallbrook

Street School. I am so happy to be here with your students this year. We are already off to an exciting start as we learn new stretches and fun cooperative games. Success in your students

Physical Education class this year rest entirely on their effort, behavior and attitude. If you would like to help your child be successful in PE, please have them wear tennis shoes to school on PE days, bring water and have an open mind and heart.

Everyone has different talents when it comes to physical activity and I hope to help your child find their special talent this year. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to email me at LHunter@fuesd.org.

Nurse Wendee’s Tips

Lice Facts-Head lice are a common community problem. An estimated 6 to 12 million infestations occur each year in the U.S., most commonly among children ages 3 to 11 years old. Live lice feed on human blood and live close to the scalp. They are not dangerous, but do spread easily. Please be proactive and check your child’s hair as part of their regular hygiene and notify the nurse if your child has lice.

Encourage your child not to share hats or hair accessories. Putting your daughters hair in a braid or ponytail also reduces the risk of infestation. There are many preventative leave-in sprays on the market that reduce the risk considerably.
