Course Rationale: Introduction to Health Care will explore a variety of careers in health
care to assist the student in deciding which health career matches their interests, values,
and abilities.
Upon completion of this course, the student will have knowledge of health care systems,
medical ethics and law, basic medical terminology, basic human anatomy, as well as handson practice in measuring vital signs.
Students will develop a solid foundation to build upon in future Health Sciences courses
(Medical Terminology, Health Occupations I & Health Occupations II).
Course Description: Introduction to Health Care is for students desiring to pursue a
career in health care. The course explores a variety of health care careers. Other topics
include history of healthcare and healthcare systems, basic medical abbreviations and
terminology, human anatomy, work ethics, and beginning a pre-employment Resume’.
Students will begin to learn about healthcare skills such as taking a patient’s vital signs.

IHC2 The student will demonstrate knowledge of health careers.
IHC3 The student will demonstrate knowledge of basic medical abbreviations and
terminology.
IHC4 The student will demonstrate knowledge of basic human anatomy.

Evaluation:
Students are able to view their grades and attendance via the Student Portal. A link has
been provided on the LCTC webpage -- http://camdentonschools.schoolwires.net/lctc
Grading Scale: Total points accumulated from all assignments will be used to establish
the semester grade.

Students have one week (7 calendar days) to complete work that was missed due
to absence. Students will communicate with instructor regarding absences.
Students are responsible for checking in and getting missed assignments from
instructor.

THIS AFFECTS THE RANKING SYSTEM TO CONTINUE INTO MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY
AND THE HEALTH OCCUPATIONS CLASSES!
CTSO (Career and Technical Student organization): Students are strongly encouraged
to be members of SkillsUSA where students will develop leadership skills and be able to
compete within their program area of study. Student dues are $15 and can be paid to the
instructor.

6. Clean up after yourself before leaving the classroom or clinical location.
7. FOLLOW the LCTC HANDBOOK as well as your HIGH SCHOOL
HANDBOOK!!!
8. If absent call instructor at 573-346-9260 or leave a message with your
name, instructor and that you will not be in class.
9.CELL PHONE USE
Cell phone use is not allowed in the classroom unless it is assigned as part of
the lesson plan, according to your LCTC Instructor.
