It is very important that both the donor and recipient (patient) follow instructions as directed. A. For Donor: 1. The preferred donor is a healthy person without GI symptoms, no prior antibiotics for 6 months, and with minimal medication use. It is also important that the donor is at relatively low risk for particular infections that arise from unprotected sexual intercourse, same sex intercourse, illicit drug use, and tattoos. 2. The doctor will give you (the donor) a requisition to obtain blood and stool tests. This must be done immediately. 3. You need to purchase an inexpensive blender, of any type, for one time use. The day before the patient’s scheduled colonoscopy, it is very important that you have a significant bowel movement. This bowel movement should be collected in a container. Once collected, empty the fecal matter along with some tap water into the blender. Blend these contents until liquid or until it looks like a chocolate milkshake. Transfer this liquid into a sealed plastic container and leave at room temperature. The next day (the day of colonoscopy) bring the plastic container with the liquid stool along with the blender to the location of the procedure. B. For Recipient/ Patient: 1. You will receive a requisition for blood and stool tests. Please obtain these immediately. 2. You will receive prep instructions for the colonoscopy.
