4th EACTS Meeting on Cardiac and Pulmonary Regeneration and Stem Cell Technology
Kursaal Bern, Switzerland
12 & 13 December 2014
CALL FOR ABSTRACTS (1 – 31 OCTOBER 2014)
Scientific Summary
In the last decade, the scientific and clinical approach to regenerative therapies in medicine is a major focus of
international medical development. The knowledge basis is formed by the basic science of organ development
and organ repair as well as evolving stem cell technologies. In this field the clinical approach to heart or lung
disease has a major impact to life-saving therapies beyond organ transplantation or artificial organ support. It
involves pharmacological, tissue engineering and stem cell therapy concepts that are studied in animal models
and in some areas already have found clinical development.
The science of tissue repair and healing mechanisms has a major impact to cardiac and pulmonary surgery. New
surgical technologies as well as adjunct therapies are at the horizon for the future cardiothoracic surgery practice.
Translational aspects are very important for the fast development and clinical implementation of new therapies.
To overcome regulatory hurdles is also an important determinant for clinical success. The “4th EACTS meeting on
cardiac and pulmonary regeneration” will focus on these topics with presentations of international leading and
innovative researchers to the state-of-art in the field of research. Moreover, best abstracts and posters of young
European researchers in this competitive field will be selected to be discussed at the conference.
Degenerative heart and lung disease and heart/lung failure are common diseases with an increasing frequency.
The prospect of cardiac and pulmonary tissue repair by stem cells and pharmacological activation has been
opened in animal models and clinically translated in the past few years in numerous studies. In this postgraduate
conference the latest concepts and scientific results in cardiac and pulmonary regeneration are discussed by
experts and young researchers.
