Meeting Notes
1) Gathering & Opening Prayer – Fr. Tim
 We discussed: Mark 12: 28-34
2) What’s Going On? – Fr. Tim & Karen
Rediscovering Catholicism Initiative
 Fr. Tim went to meeting @ St. Peters on the Rediscovering Catholicism initiative being driven from the
archdiocese. Mathew Kelly (the author) was there. Fr. Tim noted that a lot of the discussion was about engaging
people in parishes, exactly what we’ve been doing for the past year. Some stats Fr. Tim noted were that 7% of
people in a parish volunteer. 7% give financially. There was discussion at the meeting about the “Q&S”
parishioners: People that Quit involvement but yet Stay. A realistic goal for a parish is to try to increase
involvement of this group of people by 1% per year. Other stats were: 7% can become territorial. 7% have
spiritual amnesia. (people forget what they were like before they were engaged). I wonder if it’s a coincidence
that all these stats have the number 7??
 Fr. Tim talked about the four things needed for a highly-engaged catholic:
i) Prayer part of their life

iv) Evangelization (people don’t understand what evangelization is)
On 11/15, there is a parish leaders meeting of the archdiocese. Books to be delivered to parishes early December
this year. We put in around 1400 (1/household).
Books to be book-covered specifically for this archdiocese, w/ a forward on the cover by the archbishop.
During February through March of 2013, there will be a speaker series on the book. For our area, this will be at St.
John Neumann. The initiative is expected to complete by Oct 2013 with an event at the cathedral.
This initiative is a spin-off from the fact that the Pope declared 2013 a year of faith.
Other Things Going On


Fr. Tim putting a letter together a letter on stewardship.
Karen responded to questions regarding the company we hired several years ago to do a revenue enhancement
campaign. For a variety of reasons we didn’t see the increase they predicted (the biggest reason being we already
receive 50% of our giving from automatic withdrawal). This company had been recommended to us by Catholic
Finance Corporation.
3) Evaluation & reflection on Commission Meeting
 Steve talked about the pastoral care group is just forming now. There’s a need to get the word out on what the
ministries are.
 Dan talked about how they brought people in from 2 ministries in SJ. There was good discussion and surprising
need for awareness of what goes on in the ministries
 Ted talked about the Worship commission. Dan Rhoda is chair. This month, they invited Jackie Graham in to talk
to the group about her new role in the church. People shared their backgrounds of the worship and liturgies.
Talked about how they have to learn at this point.
 Jon recounted how the Parish Life commission has begun to group the parish life ministries and develop ideas on
how to move these ministries forward consistent with the overarching goals. Next month they will be coming back
with their ideas for group consideration. There was also discussion on the need to reinstate the New Parishioner
Welcome committee, now that Bob & Pat Doyle have stepped away.
4) October Listening Session Report – Steve B.
 Only one person came this past month.
 For November, we need to remind people about the listening sessions.
5) Fundraising follow up
 Discussed the golf tourney, disc golf and silent auction.
 The Silent auction raised $13700 for the 3 Acres Project. Enough to buy the plot of land desired.
 The Golf tournament raised $1300 for the youth programs
 Vinnie Gallo raised enough money to buy all the disc golf baskets.
 In general, we’ve had a good response on all the events.
6) What have you heard? -- All
 People are asking about a time, talent, treasure and ministry fair. Will talk about this next month in more detail.
 In December, Jon & Karen will be doing an overview and Q&A about future ideas/plans for the website.

Kadee proposed to the group about potentially inviting Jerry back to do a Q&A on annual planning, commission
progress, church vs business leadership.
Kadee also talked about having commissions do a large group report out early next year too.
We talked about what our agendas should be after we’re done rolling out the commission model.
Ted agreed to do the closing prayer for the December meeting.
Next PPC General Meeting is December 6th 8:30pm – 9:30pm
