Attachment: Liaison Statement from ITU-R WP5B: “Protection of radio altimeters following implementation of WAIC systems in the frequency band 4 200-4 400 MHz” (2 pages) Document1 ATTACHMENT -2- FSMP (ACP) WG-F/32 WP05 Radiocommunication Study Groups Source: Document 5B/TEMP/354 Annex 24 to Document 5B/761-E 9 December 2014 English only Annex 24 to Working Party 5B Chairman's Report LIAISON STATEMENT TO ICAO Protection of radio altimeters following implementation of WAIC systems in the frequency band 4 200-4 400 MHz ITU-R Working Party 5B (WP 5B) thanks ICAO for its support of the efforts under WRC-15 agenda item 1.17 and for the information in the liaison statement (Doc. 5B/681) providing clarification on the issue of the protection of radio altimeters following the implementation of WAIC systems in the frequency band 4 200-4 400 MHz. WP 5B notes that ICAO is of the view that the characteristics of all relevant radio altimeters operated in the field today are described in Recommendation ITU-R M.2059 “Operational and technical characteristics and protection criteria of radio altimeters utilizing the band 4 200-4 400 MHz” and that ICAO will consider these characteristics in developing Standards And Recommended Practices (SARPs) for WAIC systems. WP 5B is pleased to inform ICAO that ITU-R studies on this issue are contained in the new Report ITUR M.2319 (Doc. 5/171(Rev.1)). WP 5B invites ICAO to consider this Report in the process of developing the above mentioned SARPs for WAIC systems. WP 5B welcomes any future cooperation with ICAO on this issue.
