Your assignment is to research a certain aspect of one of the seven
geographical groups of Native Americans. You will be working as a group
to make a book telling about the environment, shelter, food, and interesting
facts about your Native American group.

Your report should have an introductory paragraph, 3-4 main body
paragraphs depending on the subtopics you choose to write about,
and a concluding paragraph.

Each paragraph should begin with a topic sentence that describes the
main idea of the paragraph. Do not including specific details in your
topic sentence.

It should be neatly hand-written or typed.

You must also include a page of drawings that illustrate at least three of the most
important details about your topic.
Here are some possible research questions to guide you in your research.
1. Topic: Habitat
 Where is the region? (from where to where, or list the states that are now in the area that
they lived.)
 What is the climate? (temperature and precipitation)
 What are the land features? (plains, mountains, hills, plateaus, etc.)
 What waterways were important? (rivers, lakes, oceans)
 What were the important natural resources? (plants, animals, fertile soil)
 Why were the natural resources important to the Native Americans in your region?
2. Topic: Shelter:
 What were the different types of shelter?
 What were they made of?
 Why were they made that way?
 Did they have different shelters for different seasons? Explain
 How were they made?
 How many people lived inside or used the shelter?
 Did they have special shelters for religious/ ceremonial reasons? Explain
3. Topic: Food
 What foods were hunted?
 What foods were gathered? (wild plants, berries, or roots)
 What foods (crops) were grown? (agriculture or farming)
 What was the most important crop?



How did they hunt?
How did they plant and harvest their crops?
Was their food important in religious ceremonies?
4. Topic: Interesting Facts or Daily Life
 Did they have special ceremonies or religious beliefs? Explain.
 What did they use as tools?
 What games did they play? Describe the games in detail. Why were they important?
 What unique artifacts did they make? (necklaces, totem poles, costumes, masks, jewelry,
baskets, bowls, etc.)
 What did they use as weapons?
 What kinds of clothing did they wear? What were the clothes made of?
 What were some important roles in the tribe? (chief, shaman, medicine men, etc.)
