PROJECT GOAL: Many facilities in the Network are facing shortages

PROJECT GOAL:
Many facilities in the Network are facing shortages in the more entry-level fields such as Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) and Home Health Aides (HHAs). These jobs can be a positive first
step to a long health care career. We also face significant turnover in this area. By showing current and prospective CNAs and HHAs how entry into this job can lead to an upward career path
in health care, and the various options for employment in health care, we can provide an incentive to become a CNA and to remain in the job. Employees need to know the breadth of job
opportunities, including nursing but also the therapies, pharmacy, radiology, and administration. In addition, the growing numbers of entry level workers who speak another language fluently
have the added opportunity of being trained for and working in the medical translation field.
The options for education, and the cost, can be daunting, but offering in-house support for creating a career plan and a way to approach it is critical if we are to retain talent and move people
into new roles. Spaulding is invested in professional development for staff and encourages staff to take advantage of various opportunities throughout the year. However, helping staff
understand how they can use professional development for career advancement is critical.
