Abstract The purpose of this study is to analyze and compare the rules of delexical verb “take” in junior high school textbooks (i-English) and corpora (IVY Language Analytic English) that the meaning of take distribute among Collins COBUILD ADVANCED DICTIONARY, CCED and Wen Shin’s English -Chinese Dictionary of Contemporary English It is hoped that the results of this study will show if the usage of rules of delexical verb “take” in the English textbooks in junior school can advance the English competences of junior high school students. The main issues investigated in this study include 1) the rules sorts of delexical verb “take” in the English textbooks and in the corpora, 2) the distributions of delexical verb “take” in each books and teaching section, and 3) the rules common to both samples and the rules that only be used in the corpora. The major findings of this study are shown as follows, 1. The third volume of i-English has the most usage of rules of all textbooks; the fourth volume has the most kinds of rules of all textbooks. 2. Grammar pattern and Practice are the teaching sections which have the most delexical verb “take” so the textbooks compile still the main of the grammar. 3. Compare the research samples, the rule of delexical verb “take” in the textbooks are much fewer. 4. Integrate the corpora (IVY Language Analytic English), the rule of delexical verb“take” which only presented in the corpora have high frequency in daily life,especially for the phrase. 5. Compare the rules of take between the textbooks and corpora, there are about fifty percent compatibilities. That shows the students don't understand about fifty percent the meaning of take when they read. Finally, it is hoped that the findings of this study have some implications and suggestions: 1. English teacher integrate the rule of delexical verb “take” to enhance the students’ abilities to memorize and apply vocabulary. 2. Textbook editors should focus on Reading and Dialogue let the students have initial concepts of delexical verb “take” and then practice in the life. 3. Research would integrate the rule of other delexical verbs to promote students’ English abilities.
