Description: Who? DAWR: Jane Dia; Guam Triatholon Federation (GTF): Mark Cruz, coordinator
What were objectives? 1) Discuss the objectives of the Piti reef training; 2) introduce campaign goals to members; and 3) call to
participate in survey.
What was accomplished? 1) Objectives for Piti reef training with coordinators to gain support; 2) Briefly described importance of
resource management to (80-90 members; 3) Collected 21 participant names for survey
What are next steps? Hold Piti reef training meetings with GTF to review first draft of training guide

3. Activity title: 02/13/13 Piti and Asan Village Mayor to discuss reef health conservation campaign goals
Description: Who? DAWR: Jane Dia; Rare – Crissy Canlas
What were objectives? 1) Discuss with Piti mayor about on-going campaign objectives; 2) introduce campaign goals to Asan
mayor; and 3) call for fishers to participate in KAP survey.
What was accomplished? 1) Informed Piti mayor of campaign progress including KAP survey dates; updates on seasonal fishing
participation; collected additional Piti fisher names 2) Briefly described importance of resource management to Asan mayor
and how Asan can help with the Piti campaign; 3) Asan mayor agreed to ask residents to participate in KAP survey and other
campaign activities
What are next steps? Get approval from DAWR to request Piti village resident information; Follow-up on Asan mayor’s fisher list

monitoring techniques 4) Observe the same group who had classroom training to how applied in the water
What was accomplished? 1) Teams collection data 2) Practiced identification 3) Completed monitoring – 2 hours 4) Group did
very well and enjoyed their experience; they would do it again. Also, would be interested in doing reef health training

What was accomplished? 1) Teams protected collection of data at NOAA warehouse 2) Practiced identification 3) Completed
monitoring training – 2 hours 3) Very successful experience; Americorp assistant, Kebor Kerradel agreed to assist in future
Piti events and offered annual commitments from Americorp members.
What are next steps? Send Piti survey “call for participants” information to program director; coordinate Piti launch, DAWR Kid’s
Fishing Derby, GCMP’s International Coastal-Cleanup, and Arbor Day tree plantings for this year.
