The Music Man
Dear Families,
Your child has been selected for a part in The Music Man, Jr. Now it’s time to start on costumes. The
performances are February 9, 10, and 11. The time will fly by, so don’t delay!
Due to budget constraints, minimal school assistance in obtaining costume items is available. Each
student is expected to furnish his/her own costume, unless noted.
On the following pages you will find a complete costume description for all the characters in our
production. The costumes are listed by character. The students will soon know their lines and can help
you pick out costumes. Look at You Tube school production videos for ideas. Watch The Music Man or
Titanic or Mary Poppins or Anne of Green Gables for the fashion styles.
Our production takes place in 1912. There are many pictures in this handout to help you out! We
encourage you to have fun, don’t stress, and do what you can.
A great resource for purchasing is thrift stores. Always try to borrow first, though. I have sewing
patterns available from a grandparent of a cast member for female dress costumes/hats—Vickie
Wright. Mrs. Wright is also available for consultation in sewing. Perhaps a family member or friend is
talented enough to sew a costume for you!
Another factor we should all keep in mind is that the performers will be wearing these costumes under
stage lights. Breathable fabrics are the best.
Please find as much as you can as quickly as you can. Let us know as soon as possible if you have any
difficulties obtaining a costume, by sending a note with your child to rehearsal or by e-mail. Our
costume coordinator again this year is parent volunteer, Colleen Lawson.
Remember: ALL CLOTHING MUST BE LABELED!
Students should bring costumes secured on hangers or in heavy duty plastic hanging bags labeled with
their name and part. They are hung on long, wheeled coat racks with minimal shelf space.
Due Date for all costumes:
Monday January 9th
Thanks for all your help and support.
