Parents Beaconsfield Primary School Board Voting 2015 2015 SHARON MORRIS I am a parent of two children at the school, Harrison in year 1 and Althea in year 5. I’ve been an active member of the Beaconsfield Primary School P&C for some time now as well as working in the canteen and supporting the Quiz Night fundraisers. My professional background as a social worker led to previous board experience, mostly at The Women’s Legal Centre. Over the last few years I’ve been an advocated for disability, primarily autism, and have an understanding of behavioural interventions, including positive behaviours support. Thank you for your consideration. ALISON LOUBIKIS RICHARD BOSTWICK ANNE-SOPHIE DELEFLIE JASON BEELEY My name is Alison Luobikis and I would like to be considered for a position on the inaugural Beaconsfield Primary School Board. I believe that there is great opportunity to enhance our school community and build on the excellence that has been established over almost 125 years. I also think that I can make a valuable contribution in this journey. I am a working Mum, striving to achieve that work/life balance whilst being a positive role model to my daughter. In my professional life I work in Business Performance/Business Improvement, developing and delivering on a governance structure that is being matured in an Alliance between Water Corporation and the Programmed Group across the Perth Region. This work sees me working right across the business from the field crews, to the Supervisory and Management Teams, right up to the Corporate Executive Teams of both organisations , and ultimately the Boards. I have a passion for continuous improvement and the development of initiatives to make real change. I am also passionate about the demonstration of performance and particularly the delivery of value for money, efficiency and effectiveness and am most satisfied when I can deliver something at the cutting edge. I believe these skills can translate well to a school board setting. In my personal life I am passionate about giving my daughter, Georgia, all of the opportunities to be the very best person she can possibly be – academically, as an individual and as a member of a community. Georgia is in Year 1 and just at the start of her school life. I am keen that her time at Beaconsfield builds a solid foundation and allows her both to excel academically but also be part of a nurturing and respectful community. During our first year at Beaconsfield, our family has been keen to get involved, attending P&C meetings, assisting at school events and always ready to be part of cake stalls, play dough sales and other school events. I find the idea of being part of the Beaconsfield Primary School Board and assisting to shape it’s future an exciting thought and I would love to be part of it. My name is Richard Bostwick. I am a committed resident of Beaconsfield and wish to be considered for a position on the board, as I believe that a school should be a healthy and strong component of any community. My daughter began kindergarten this year and I see myself as having a long term commitment to the school as this is the start of my little one’s formal educational journey. I also have two older daughters who have just finished their primary school years. My professional background is in nursing and I have worked in a variety of health care settings in the UK and Australia. My experience has been both as a clinician and senior leader and manger. A large proportion of my leadership roles have been in the area of managing change and the implementation of governance structures to support healthy organisations. For the last 6 years I have been working in the university sector as a senior lecturer and researcher and am currently working in such a role at the University of Notre Dame, Fremantle. My PhD focused on the impact and effectiveness of support systems to those engaged in tertiary education and made recommendations for the measurement of effective service provision. Essentially how do we provide a safe and healthy place for people to learn? I believe students need to be well supported, happy and inquiring thus enabling them to receive a sound education. This in turn provides a strong basis equipping them to contribute to our fantastic vibrant community. With my experience outlined above and my passion for pastoral care I feel that I am well suited to contribute to the school community. My name is AnneSophie Deleflie. David and I have two boys at Beaconsfield: George (Year 2) and Yannick (PP). We have been actively involved in the school since 2012. I have been a regular at P&C meetings since late 2013. Currently, I am part of the Project Team working to develop Jenkins St into a Nature Play area - an experience I have thoroughly enjoyed. My background is working as a lawyer, and in policy and community development. I have worked across the community sector, for industry and in government. I have been a board member of community organisations (women’s refuge, drug/alcohol service and various community legal centres). I migrated to Australia aged 10, coming from a non-English speaking background. My areas of interest, which I believe should be represented on the board are: Learning differences: Ensuring our school provides an environment in which all types of learners can thrive and reach their full potential, by working smarter, not harder. Use of Technology: Technological advances provide a powerful tool in schools. Ensuring our school develops policies and practices to harness the best of learning through technology and to be aware of its limitations. Play opportunities: Ensuring our school values the opportunities for learning and personal development through unstructured play and creativity in a childled environment. I would be honoured to serve on the Board and advocate on behalf of families who share my areas of interest, and to share my skills/experience to ensure good governance. I’m Jason Beeley, current Chair of the School Council. All three of my children are at Beacy – Lexie in Kindy, Harry in Year 1 and Freddie in Year 4. That means I have been part of our school community for a while and still have quite a few years to look forward to. School is big part of my children’s lives. I figure it is better to get actively involved and do what I can to make it a happy and bustling place for them to learn and grow. I have been on the School Council for the last two years, and have been Chair for the last 18 months. Over that time I worked closely with John and the rest of the Council to make sure Beacy successfully became an Independent Public School. I would really like to stay involved and help the school make the most of the opportunities that going IPS offers. In my day job I am Assistant Auditor General for Performance Audit at the WA Auditor General’s Office. I have skills and experience in governance, accountability and managing risk, and assessing and measuring the performance of public services, including education. It also means I have experience dealing with bureaucracies and bureaucrats. For me, being on the Board means being a constant advocate for the school and doing the best for every child at the school. I believe that the diversity in our school is a great strength around which we build a community, and I want to make sure that everyone in that community is engaged and informed about how our school is run, and how we make it better.
