January 28, 2016 PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE On Friday, February 5 @1:15pm, the TIGER team from Plymouth State University will be here to present their “Let’s be Friends” program. You are welcome to join us! Just Between Friends helps children understand what it takes to make and be a good friend and has been a favorite in our schools because of its humor and strong messages about friendship. School counselors requested this popular production that seeks to help students understand how their behavior influences their friendships. Just Between Friends is filled with many entertaining scenes, songs and dances that teach children how to engage in more positive relationships with their friends. It is suitable for a K-6 audience. This fun production includes favorites: “The Great Rotini” and “The Jump Rope”. The cornerstones of this production are: Trust I accept you Giving Exclusion? No! Respect (https://www.plymouth.edu/outreach/tiger/performances/just-between-friends/) REMINDER: In the morning, students can wait in the bus port area until the doors open at 8:20. There is no adult supervision until that time. Staff Professional Development (PD): The District will be having a PD day on February 9 (no school for students!). We have many areas that we want to work on here at RMS. Something that we continue to work on is our Response to Instruction (RTI), which is sometimes also called Response to Intervention. I want to define both of these for you and continue to keep you informed about Response to Instruction at RMS. General Definition of RTI: Response to Intervention (RTI) is a multi-tier approach to the early identification and support of students with learning and behavior needs. The RTI process begins with high-quality instruction and universal screening of all children in the general education classroom (http://www.rtinetwork.org). Response to Intervention: Response to Intervention (RtI) focuses only on students in need of intervention. Response to Instruction: Response To Instruction (RTI) focuses on meeting the needs of all students through intervention, prevention, and acceleration. “The Response To Instruction ( RTI ) model is a process NOT a program. As each school site is different so must the model be designed to fit the needs of that particular school and their students’ needs” (http://www.iusd.org/WCCEE/documents/Articles%20-%20RTI%20%20vs%20RtI.pdf). Staff is currently working on a RTI Vision Statement for RMS. We will share more about this as we develop a vision of where we want our ideal school, RMS, to go. We look forward to your feedback! DELIBERATIVE SESSION, Wednesday, February 3, 6:30 PM, Rindge Memorial School Attendees of the school district’s Deliberative Session will help make important decisions about the school district budget for 2016-17. Although the final voting takes place in March, amendments may be proposed at this session to change the warrants that will appear on the ballot. For example, attendees could vote to either increase or decrease the total budget being proposed for 2016-17. Parents, grandparents and other voters are encouraged to attend this important meeting. Parents are encouraged to attend and FREE child care will be provided. So we can plan effectively, please return the RSVP form being sent home last week or you may also call the school office at 899-3363 or send an email to c.areias@sau47.org Tuesday, March 8, 2016: Voting Day RMS Gymnasium for Rindge voters and Jaffrey VFW for Jaffrey voters. They are as follows: February 3, 2016 — First Session of Annual Meeting (Deliberative) • Time: 6:30 pm • Location: Rindge Memorial School Gymnasium • Purpose: Discuss and finalize Warrant 2016-17 (School District Officers, Operating Budget, Collective Bargaining Agreements, etc.) • Free child care provided by district employees February 9, 2016 - NO SCHOOL • This is a change from the original 2015-16 school year calendar (see revised calendar on back) • School Board Policy KLA was adopted on November 16, 2015 which states, "To ensure student safety and prevent disruption of the educational process, municipal voting and class sessions shall not occur concurrently in the same building.”— This is the reason for the calendar change. I do hope that as many of you as possible can come out to be involved in the discussions and voting on February 3 and March 8. Reuben Duncan Superintendent of Schools
