9/15- Issue masks if have not already done so. Those who have not paid, please do so immediately.
9/15- START BLS COURSE. YOU MUST NOT BE ABSENT FOR ANY REASON THIS WEEK. If you are absent you
will not complete the BLS course and you will not be allowed to stay in the First Responder course.
9/19- TEST American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers written test. MUST MAKE 85% OR
BETTER ON THIS TEST TO GET CERTIFIED.

Unit Objectives: The student will learn…
1. the role of the heart in maintaining adequate perfusion to the cells of the body.
2. the consequences of cardiac arrest.
3. to perform primary assessments to differentiate between patients who are in cardiac arrest and those who are not when given a
scenario.
4. to demonstrate the modifications of technique required to check for a pulse in infants.
5. the urgency of beginning resuscitation for patients in cardiac arrest.
6. the links in the chain of survival of cardiac arrest.
7. to perform one and two rescuer CPR on adults, children, and infants.
9. why the lone rescuer should begin resuscitation in infants and children prior to calling for EMS.
10. the modifications in techniques that are necessary for successfully maintaining an open airway and providing ventilations and
chest compressions in children and infants during CPR.
11. the four arrhythmias that cause cardiac arrest.
12. the importance of early defibrillation in cardiac arrest.
13. the safety considerations in the use of the AED.
14. to use the AED safely and effectively.
15. reasons that an AED may not deliver a shock to a patient in cardiac arrest.
16. the importance of continuous quality assurance programs for the use of AED’s.
17. to demonstrate the appropriate assessment and resuscitative techniques, including the integrated use of the AED, ventilation,
and CPR given a series of scenarios for adults, children, and infants.
18. to demonstrate the steps in caring for a patient who has a return of spontaneous circulation following CPR and defibrillation.
19. to identify situation in which it may not be advisable to begin, or continue CPR.
20. the proper technique to relieve a foreign body airway obstruction in adults, children, and infants.

Activity- Continue BLS for Healthcare Providers hands-on course. Adult 1 and 2 rescuer CPR and AED.
Homework- Study notes for the American Heart Association BLS TEST on FRIDAY.
WEDNESDAY 9/17:
Warm-up- Warm-up, review, & reminders
Activity- Continue BLS for Healthcare Providers hands-on course. AED, 1 and 2 rescuer infant CPR.
Homework- Study notes for the American Heart Association BLS TEST on Friday.
THURSDAY 9/18:
