State Liaison Loraine Phillips met with Hub Director George Siemens for two hours from
9:00-11:00 in his LINK Lab at The University of Texas at Arlington, Nedderman 246. The
topic was to “Brainstorm Competency-based Skills Framework for Faculty. The meeting
included the following from the LINK Lab:
George Siemens
Throy Campbell
Laurel Mayo
Brett Benham
Matthew Crosslin
Catherine Spann
Justin Dellinger
During the meeting it was determined that the Hub Director would launch the Faculty
Collaboratives Web site using the LEAP Texas URL. Matt Crosslin would work on this.
In addition, it was determined that the LINK Lab would develop “Bootcamp Modules” for
the Faculty Collaboratives using a “MOOC-ish” technology infrastructure; a distributed
model. The LINK Lab would set the Agenda, content, and speakers, beginning with
designated proficiency initiatives. The “Bootcamp Modules” would run one month
on/one month off. At first, beginning in September. After considering the holidays, it was
determined that the Hub Director would begin these in November.
The State Liaison would introduce George to Tiffany Hearne, currently working on the

Web site, in order to get started. The two met at the 2nd Annual LEAP Texas Forum.
August 3-4, 2015
The 2nd Annual LEAP Texas Forum was held at Stephen F. Austin State University in
Nacogdoches, Texas with 110 people in attendance. The evaluation survey revealed
success, as well as helpful comments. The keynote speaker, Pat Hutchings, gave a
fabulous talk about the DQP Assignment Library, as well as distributed the Call for the
next round of Assignments. Several other speakers were present, including Dr. Susan
Albertine. The Agenda and information can be found here: http://leaptx.org/events/2ndannual-forum/. Resources from the speakers can be found here:
http://leaptx.org/events/2nd-annual-forum/resources/. The Theme was Focusing
Learning Through Well Designed Assignments.

The LEAP Texas Faculty Fellows to had a 2 ½ hour planning meeting with Dr. Pat
Hutchings, National Institute for Learning Outcomes Assessment (NILOA) Senior Scholar;
Dr. Susan Albertine, Vice President, AAC&U; Dr. George Siemens, Executive Director, LINK
Lab, and Dr. Loraine Phillips, State Liaison following the Second Annual LEAP Texas
Forum. Lunch was provided. In addition, several Faculty Fellows and Steering Committee
Members were guests at the LEAP Texas Board meeting, offering an opportunity for the
Board to meet the Faculty Fellows and Steering Committee.
August 27-29, 2015
The State Liaison, Loraine Phillips, attended the 3csn Threshold Project meeting at
Fullerton College in California. In addition, the 5 State Liaisons met with Dr. Susan
Albertine. The meeting was abundantly helpful and inspiring, with many good action
items gleaned and ready to be implemented.
August 31, 2015
We have DRAFTED a Call for an Assessment Fellow that will be tasked with facilitating
inter-institutional assessment. We are working with Susan Albertine, the other state
liaisons, and the Steering Committee for the final touches and to make the call!
Please describe any current challenges you are facing in meeting your FC Project goals:
We had a mix-up with a $10,000 contribution to TAMU Corpus Christi, our Administrative Home. We are
working it out with AAC&U.
Ensuring follow-through on project contributors has been a challenge with some in our group. The State
Liaison is developing “Plan B’s” when needed and will carefully monitor the situation.
Suggestions or Questions for AAC&U FC Staff:

The Landscape Analysis from Rebecca Dolinsky is very helpful. I am looking forward to sharing it with the
Steering Committee, the LEAP Texas Board, and the Faculty Fellows.
Please update your goals for the next reporting period:
Call for an Assessment Fellow to facilitate inter-institutional assessment in Texas.
Have a State-level Web presence.
Faculty Fellows begin responding to AAC&U initiative questions.
Consider how best to reach out to Assessment Professionals.
