Book Club I have sent home the Book Club orders for October. If you wish to purchase any items from the catalogues then please write down the order on the forms and return them to the school with payment in an envelope or small plastic bag. Please ensure that your name is marked clearly on the order form. Book Club orders close on Monday 28th October. 2. Helen & Milo Yesterday morning we had a visit from Helen and her dog Milo, they were here to show us how to be responsible pet owners. The children enjoyed the chance to learn more about animals and how it is important to respect the animal’s space, feed them regularly and make sure that they are healthy through regular exercise. Also they learnt how ask a pet owner first if they were able to pat their pet and what to do if the dog got a little excited. 3. Jazz Trio We were entertained last week by a visiting Jazz Trio. The 3 musicians were studying music in Sydney and were part of a visiting band of musicians. The Trio that visited us were playing a 5 stringed bass guitar, electric piano and drums. They played several songs for us in their 45 minutes performance as well as answering any questions that the children posed. 4. Culcairn Cricket Super 8’s Last Friday, Tanna, Carson, Elias and Will travelled to Culcairn to compete in the Super 8’s cricket tournament that was organised by Mr Allibon, the principal of Culcairn Public School. They played 3 games for the day. Their first game resulted in a win against Culcairn P.S with Tanna and Elias scoring several runs each. In the second game they defeated St Patrick’s School, with all players performing well. In the final game they had a tie with Jindera Public School. This placed them equal 2nd in the 19team competition. An excellent result considering the team were inexperienced and it was their first game together. They formed the team with 4 players from Mullengandra Public School. 5. Tennis Anyone? Each Saturday from 11:30 am until 1pm there will be social tennis played at the Gerogery Tennis Courts. This is a family fun event that doesn’t require a weekly commitment. Just turn up when available and a game will be organised. Come along with the whole family and remember to bring your food and drinks. There are no costs for the use of the tennis courts; the only proviso is that the courts are cleaned after games. Come along and help Tara get fit and at the same time enjoy a free social day out in the sun. 6. MullyGeryTable Athletics Carnival This annual event will be held on the grounds of the ‘Royal’ Gerogery Public School on Tuesday 29th October between 10am and 2:30pm. All children from Gerogery, Mullengandra and Table Top School will be competing in running races, javelin, long jump and a modified version of Clop. All points scored are divided by the school’s enrolment. The school with the highest average score gets to raise the ‘Mountain Trophy.’ Parents and friends are all welcome to watch the carnival or assist wherever needed, remember your picnic chairs on the day. 7. Hats To Be Worn Outside Now that the weather has begun to warm up and the sun is shining our ‘No Hat No Play’ policy comes into effect. Children need their bucket hat to be worn when playing outside in the sun. If no hat is worn then you must play under cover. There are hats for sale from the front office if your child has misplaced theirs. 8. Years 3&4 Canberra Excursion The Canberra excursion with Table Top School is rapidly approaching. It takes place next week, from Tuesday 22nd to Thursday 24th October. We will be departing school at 7:10am and travelling to Table Top to pick up the other minibus and place some of their students on the larger bus. There will be a $40 per student levee that will be used for incidentals throughout the 3 day excursion (full cost would be $290/student). This money needs to be sent to school by Monday 21st October. Enclosed is a timetable for the excursion. Our accommodation this year will be at the Canberra Motor Village in O’Connor. Their phone number is 0262475466. I will have the school mobile with me and I can be contacted on 0407237773. Please return the permission note to the school ASAP. Also a suggested packing list is attached. We hope to arrive back at school between 6:30 and 7pm on the Thursday 24th October. 9. P&C News At last night’s P&C meeting, the upcoming MullyGeryTable Mountain Trophy carnival was discussed. This carnival will take place at the school on Tuesday, 29th October commencing at 10am. The P&C will again be running the BBQ and kiosk on the day. They are looking for volunteers to man the stall and cook the BBQ. If you have some spare time then please fill in the attached form with the times that you can assist and return to school. Also the P&C is asking for any cakes, slices, fruit sticks etc to be donated to the stall so that they can be sold throughout the carnival. 10. Miss Peachey’s Last Day Miss Peachey’s last day is fast approaching and I would like to take this opportunity to thank her for all her help and assistance she has given to the staff and students of our school. I am sure that everyone wishes Miss Peachey all the best in the future as she starts out on her new vocation, teaching. 10. Fire Awareness Visit As Gerogery Public School is recognised as being situated in a high-risk area, that is prone to bushfires, we will be receiving a visit from the Rural Fire Services of NSW to present to the children a presentation that highlights the importance of having an up to date fire evacuation plan. I also believe that they have a couple of new resources for the children to explore. DATES FOR YOUR DIARIES Friday 18 th October Miss Peachey’s last day.
