Course Description (including prerequisites):
This course builds on the concepts related to the concerns faced by pediatric and geriatric
patients presented in Unit I. This course is designed to give the provider the knowledge to
modify their assessments and treatments to accommodate the pediatric and geriatric patient.

Student Contributions: We expect you as a student to come prepared for the class session. The
rule of thumb for studying is for each hour of class time, students are expected to study two
hours outside of class. We highly recommend forming study groups and utilizing the college
resources such as the Student Area, Academic Resource Center (ARC) and available Tutors. It is
expected that you work with each other and the EMS equipment with safety in mind. All EMS
equipment must be inspected, assembled and replaced in the proper area after each class. Check
with your instructor if you have any questions.
Description of classroom activities, lab activities and assignments:
Assignments are due at the beginning of class, unless noted. Late assignments must be turned in
within one week of due date. Reading should be done BEFORE class so that it can be discussed
during class. You will be expected to work outside of class to complete your assignments.
PHYSICAL CONTACT and TEAMWORK is imperative in the EMS field and will be an
important element in your final practical skill examination and your career outcome. During this
course you may be required to work on assignments and projects together. You will be
EXPECTED to coach each other in a TEAM ENVIRONMENT. Unless directed otherwise; you
will be required to complete your own work. If you are uncomfortable with the idea of physically
touching, or being touched, by others in your class, please consult your instructor before
practical skills begin. Respect for each other’s person is expected and essential. If you have
questions please ask your instructor.

Course Policies:
Topic Exams: Topic exams will be given as scheduled on the class schedule. Make up exams
must be approved in advance by the instructor and must be completed within one week of the
original exam date. You will be responsible for making arrangements with your instructor to
complete the exams. All topic exams must be completed with a passing grade of at least 70%

before attempting the final. Topic exams will be averaged together for grade. The first score
obtained on topic exams will be recorded for grade.
Final Exams: A GEMS & a PEPP final written exam will be given at the end of the didactic
sessions. A student must complete the course final with a passing grade of at least 70%. Any
person found cheating on exams will be subject for review and may receive an F for the class.
(Unscheduled exams may be given, at instructor’s discretion.) For qualification of PEPP and
GEMS cards a grade of 80% is required
Uniform: The student must participate in uniform during classroom activities, which will count
towards the student’s grade. Student will be told to leave the classroom area until in proper
uniform and will forfeit any participation points earned that day.
Extra Credit: Extra credit can be turned in at any time during the course and will be added to
the final grade. Extra credit can consist of worksheets, projects, mini lectures, etc. A maximum
of 5% (50pts) will be allowed. If you have questions

Recording of lectures:
Upon request, individual instructors may give permission for students to audio or video record
lectures. However, in no way does this permission give any student the right to use the recording
for anything beyond their own individual study and review. No student should ever, under any
circumstances, audio or video record any lecture without the express permission of the individual
instructor. Any violations of this agreement could lead to consequences as per the Student Code
of Conduct found within the Student Handbook. Posting of recordings to a social media site is
not permissible under any circumstances and will result in legal action against the student.
