TALK: Camino de Santiago – by Emilene Ferreira
Venue: Mountain Club of South Africa, Hatfield Street, Cape
Town. Slide shows start at 8:30 pm and lasts for approximately
one hour. The Clubhouse is open from 7:30 pm. Emilene's talk
covers the practical, humoristic and spiritual aspects of her 42
day Via de la Plata walk. The talk will be followed by a slide show
of the walk comprising of photographs taken along the route. No

Our annual Christmas lunch will be at Renata's house in
Rondebosch. She has kindly agreed to make her house, garden
and pool available for this function. We thank Renata very much
for her kindness. The address is no 1 Sunnybrae Road, that is on
the corner of Campground and Sunnybrae Road. The Club
provides as usual salads, bread rolls and dessert. You need to
bring your meat, chicken, vegetarian sausages or whatever and
your drinks for the braai. Also bring your own plate and cutlery
and don't forget your swimming costume. We will light the braai

the top of valley road where we will take the path that leads onto the
Hoerikwagga trail and walk towards Cape Point. Brigid is very
knowledgeable about the flowers on the mountain. We will walk for 3-4 hours

drive to Echo Valley entrance. Lovely walk to cave's northern entrance.
There we slide, crawl and walk to the South entrance. Cave is pitch dark so
don’t forget torches. Great fun! We exit from the south side and enjoy good
views. We follow track to Boyes drive and back to cars. Refreshment will be

This easy walk is ideal for families and beginners. It starts in Bainskloof at Eerste
Tol, leading up a jeep track past the ruins of an old house and a monument
commemorating the 1895 Witte River disaster. Remember to bring your
costume so you can take a break and enjoy the many beautiful rock pools
along the way. The secluded Junction Pools, where two rivers meet, is at the
end of the route. Return on the same path. Rivers may be full in winter. This is

Champamns Peak taking advantage of the free day pass to drive to the start

stiff ascent up Blackburn Ravin to access the upper contour to visit the
Manganese Mine. Great views into Hout Bay and surrounds. Refreshments

17 Jan – Bobbejaan’s River Trail (OPTION 1)

This scenic trail starts at the Bainskloof Corner Lodge parking area, near De
Nek. It winds across the Bobbejaans River, a tributary of the Witte River. After
about 3.5km, you can plunge into the river’s inviting mountain pools
(remember to bring your costume). The final steep ascent leads you to a
stunning three-tiered waterfall. This trail is particularly beautiful in summer
when the colourful disas and giant proteas are in bloom. The Witte River is
difficult to cross in winter after heavy rainfall. This is a permitted hike and

Meeting at 12:00 at Lower Tokai plantation on Spaanschemat Road. There is
a parking area on the right if going towards Muizenburg. This is a pleasant
walk for approximately 3 hours so I want to encourage young children to
come along and enjoy this marvellous area. There is a nice river flowing
through where we will have a picnic and just enjoy letting the children enjoy
life in safety. It is aimed at children under 10 and adults that want to get a bit
of fitness. Dogs are welcome as well and if you want to bring a pram the
path can accommodate that as well. This is a real ramble and no definite

Rondebosch to Kirstenbosch 7 Feb Meet at the grounds of the VOB Squash
Courts on Avenue De mist, next to the Western Province Cricket Club. Meet
at 1pm A 10km easy walk to Kirstenbosch and back. Allow at least 4 hours for
a leisurely pace seeing Rondebosch in a new light. We follow the Liesbeek
River for part of the way and end up below the Kirstenbosch Gardens. Drinks
will be at a pub on Campground road. Some Oaks or Michaels if they have

refreshing drink at Ons Huisie on return. Some of the sand is soft, so you'll work

Lions Head and Signal hill and enjoy the splendid views this walk affords. It is

hours long and add on for the drinks or you can go straight to the cars. A
