Math 110 (Intermediate Algebra) COURSE POLICIES
Daily Homework: There will be a graded, online homework assignment given on each section covered. You will get
immediate feedback on each homework problem, and incorrectly worked problems can be repeated (with a new version
provided by the computer) until a correct solution is obtained. Tips and examples are available on line for each
homework problem, in addition to the help available from your instructor and the teaching assistants in the Math TLC
open lab in JHSW 203.
 Each homework assignment is due at the start of class on the class day after the section is assigned. All deadlines
are given in the syllabus and in the on-line assignment list.
 You’ll have time to start each day’s homework in class after the day’s lecture, and there’s help available in the
open lab in JHSW 203 from 8 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.
 Each homework assignment is designed to take the average student one to two hours. Expect to spend an
average of at least six hours per week on homework outside of class.
 Homework assignments can be completed on any computer with internet access, not just in the lab or classroom.
 Homework deadlines can be extended by your instructor if circumstances warrant, but you should work ahead if
you know you will miss class. Getting one or two days behind can make it very hard to catch up with the pace of
the daily homework and quizzes in this class.
Weekly Quizzes:

There will be weekly quizzes at the start or end of each Thursday on non-test weeks.
Test Guidelines: Each test will have a practice version available online.
 Practices tests count a small amount (about 5%) towards your grade; can be taken as many times as you want,
with only your best score counting towards your course grade; are due at the start of class on the day of the test;
and can be done anywhere you have internet access, just like homework.
 All scheduled tests
o must be taken in class (or in the Math TLC testing lab with a proctor).
o must be taken on the day scheduled unless prior arrangements are made with your course instructor.
o are given online with a lockdown browser that blocks other websites, apps and screens.
 You can use your laptop and a formula sheet handout for tests, but no other devices or notes are allowed.
 A basic calculator is available online in each homework assignment and in the lockdown browser during tests.
 If a test is missed due to an unavoidable circumstance, a makeup may be given. Contact your instructor as soon
as possible in such cases. Documentation of reason for absence may be required. If approved by your instructor,
a makeup will be scheduled. Students who must miss scheduled tests due to official University business must
make arrangements for makeup work before classes are missed.
Attendance Policy: Attendance is expected at every class session. Credit is given for attendance on non-test days.
Cell phone policy:
CELL PHONE CALLS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE MATH TLC.
Your cell phone needs to be out of your sight (and ours), and the ringtone turned off.
