Directors Reports:
Maughmer, introductions, kids doing great. Keep encouraging your kids to eat, rest sleep and drink. All the people who helped with Drumline
Clinic and Contest, thanks for your help.
Alstrin, doesn’t mind speaking and apologized for coming in late due to coaching the Shooting Dragons five year old soccer team with a two
year old crawling on his head. Something about daddy, daddy, hat, hat, up up up. He kept breathing and laughing on the outside smiled and
was happy, on the inside had moments of frustration, a lot like his job at Bell. There’s kids crawling on your hair, and they come to talk to us
and we send them to their section leaders, ask them if they talked to their drum major. This time of year the wheels start coming off for some
kids. Some handle it fine and others don’t. One of his favorite saying from Mathews is that this is a marathon not a sprint. When they were all
lined up on July 30th and all looked ready to go, some fizzle out after a week or two. Now it’s darker in the morning, some have stopped
bringing water bottles, not eating breakfast, please make sure you help them stay on track. Never give up on a student, never give up on them
when they are down. Now’s the time to reprogram them, when their defenses are down. Continuing improvement on PDSA, plan-do-studyact. When the going gets tough that’s when you push through. Now is the time to help them grow and be ready to be strong. Coupled with
that it is about performing, while standing under the lights, goose bumps come and they get the feeling. Working so hard, performing pleasing
the audience, that’s what it’s all about. Get them to see the big picture if you can, keep it on the positives. And if you have any questions or
concerns I encourage you to talk to… Mr. Holt.
Mr. Holt- Starts off with “he’s a jerk”. Well you can tell that fall is in the air. We have football, we having marching band, but there are two
other things that are most important, we know it is the fall season.. The pumpkin spiced latte, and the mid-point of six weeks. Encourage you
kids to keep their grades up, so that after they leave here, they have choices. Encourage them to go through all the standardized tests. SAT,
ACT, PSAT tests are all very important. How they do in high school on the standardized tests, and the extra-curricular activities they choose to
be a a part of, affect their future. We have kids in this program that can help tutor your child. Use students who excel at certain things to help
other kids excel and participate in extracurricular activities at LD bell High school. They are not the most important. Thank you for your support
and allowing us to teach your student. And you enable us to continue this tradition by sending us you student.
Mathews- Where we are. At 3:57 this week the first 6 weeks will come to an end. They will be eligible to participate having a 70 or higher,
based on the UIL calendar all the way through grand nationals. If a child were in eligible due to a 70 or lower in their classes they will be
ineligible for 3 weeks until a progress report comes out, and then they will be reevaluated. They problem is they will miss competitions, but
because we have to assess plans and put another kid in that spot, we will be committed to that child. According to my list there are quite a few
kids that are not eligible as of today. He is checking them every day. Some of the teachers haven’t put the grades all in yet, and some kids are
still listed in classes that they transferred out of earlier in the year. The counselors are helping to find the correct grades in the correct classes.
Mr. Maughmer advised to use home access center to check your children’s grades. He will check every day. Please help you children, and
email the teacher is you have issues due to work not logged in. Use HAC if you have any questions. Next thing is that it is time to perform.
Since July 29th, we have been practicing, now it’s time to perform. It’s cool, bizarre, neat and cool. Kids are kids and they are all performing and
trying hard at every competition. They are performing for us, and they are someone’s kids and their parents love them. HEB Marching
contest, we are inviting kids to our home to perform. This Sat we are in exhibition. WE perform at the end of finals as the scores are being
tallied. We perform at 9:30 PM. Please come and be a part. Next Saturday, we are going to BOA Allen. This year it’s all north Texas groups.
Prelims time is 1:15 PM, after the completions, we are going to Clark High School and rest, eat watch video talk, then after finals are announced
we draw numbers and then we will know out performance time. UIL is the next Tuesday. We perform for all three judges. WE will do good.
Now as we are going into completion season, I would like to go over this article written from a parent and educator point of view. Basically
please only clap, no cat calls whistles etc. Enjoy the show, just clapping only. No pictures please. They ask us not to do that because they also
take pictures to sell. Everyone has an opinion; the judges are good people trying to do a good job. Seven people have seven opinions on what
is good. Our kids are going to be good, really really good. Competition is better with friends. Mathews doesn’t have any enemies and doesn’t
look to beat anyone else, he just wants our kids to put out their best effort and that is what we are looking for. He knows they will be
contenders. Remember to clap, and the old mom-ism of if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all. Be a supporter of kids; be
mindful that we are being watched because we are in this program. Enjoy and clap for the groups you like. Always encourage. There will be
another meeting before Grand Nationals and San Antonio and we will give out more information. Now, it’s time to perform.
Meeting adjourned at 8:08 PM Seconded by Staci Lott AND Michelle Stanley.
