Professor Barbara Yorke, BA, Phd, FSA, FRHS Emeritus Professor in Early Medieval History University of Winchester Professor Yorke completed both her undergraduate degree and PhD at the University of Exeter. She has lectured at the University of Winchester since 1977, holding positions such as Director of the Research Centre of Archaeology and History. She currently holds the position of Emeritus Professor in Early Medieval History. Her research interests lie with early medieval British history, with special interests in kingship, conversion, Wessex, women, religion and 19th-century Anglo-Saxonism. Major publications include Kings and Kingdoms in Early Anglo-Saxon England, Wessex in the Early Middle Ages and The Conversion of Britain 600-800. She is currently writing a book on King Alfred for the Pocket Giants series of the History Press.
