Next Week is Bullying Prevention Week at Deerfield: (Oct. 5-9th) Monday, October 5th—WEAR BLUE to show your support and Take a Stand, Lend a Hand Against Bullying! Since the first week of school, staff and students have talked about our school wide bullying prevention rules. 1. We will not bully others. 2.We will try to help students who are bullied. 3.We will make it a point to include others who are easily left out. 4.When we know somebody is being bullied, we will tell an adult at school and an adult at home. How to Help Prevent Your Child from Becoming a Bully •Intervene immediately with discipline, not punishment •Create opportunities to “do good” •Nurture empathy •Teach friendship skills: assertive, respectful, and peaceful •Closely monitor T.V., games, computer activities, and music •Engage in more constructive, entertaining and energizing activities Taken from The Bully, the Bullied and the Bystander Nicole Bobey, LSCSW Deerfield Mental Health Professional and Social Worker
